Bay filly Saigar (Varenar-Pinotage / New Approach Stud) trained by C.D. Monnappa put in a spirited gallop down the final stretch to slam the opposition in the C. Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy at Mysore on Wednesday. The filly was held back to run in about ninth or tenth till straightening for home. Entering the straight Sardinia had grabbed the lead and was being challenged by Nikka. Apprentice Sunil Samson brought Saigar from around the field and the filly raised a gritty gallop to flash past all of them and register a fine win. Tremendous made way between horses rather dangerously to get to the second spot followed by Lovely Micmel and Sardinia. The favourite Malkia missed the start and was never in the hunt.

Apprentice Sunil Samson had a good day booting home a treble. He steered M.Bobby trained Flying Show (Varenar-Queen Victoria / Equus Stud) in the Sahyadri Plate and had started the day on debutante Silver Dew in the maidens’ race. Flying Show was handily placed behind the quartet till turning for home. On top of the straight the fancied Poet surged ahead and Flying Show not finding room between horses was pulled out to make a bid from the outside. The 5 years old carrying a back breaking top weight of 61.5 kilograms challenged Poet strongly and drew clear by three parts of a length. Bandito and Aliboxer finished third and fourth respectively in a close finish. Extra Spark was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

S. Ganapathy trained Silver Dew (Charmo-Princess Yamuna / Hazara Stud) made a winning beginning to her career in the Fame And Glory Plate. The grey filly raced in fourth till the last 300 metres and improved to grab the lead. The favourite Full Bloom was gaining ground in the last 100 metres but failed to collar Silver Dew. Full Bloom looked to be running a bit green in the straight but the rider also failed to correct his whip hand and his effort looked a bit weak. King Star finished third ahead of Draugen.

S.M. Johnson trained Pikacho (Dancing Forever-Cover Up / Hazara Stud) wrapped up the Mekedaatu Plate, beating the strongly fancied Perfecto after a keen fight. Pikachu went on a start to finish bid followed by Perfecto right from the start. Pikachu kept kicking on with jockey Sahanawaz keeping up the ante and staved off the effort of Perfecto. Zagato and Clouds filled the frame in that order.

Feroz M Khan trained Majestic Queen (Mr Mellon-Band Of Gold / Ruia Stud) scored an easy win in the division I of the Pattadakal Plate. The trainer went for a change of rider, replacing Goutham Raj Urs with a more talented Irvan Singh citing ill health and Irvan drove the aged mare to a start to finish bid. Bestow and Oceana took the minor places in that order followed by Aix Ace Red.

In the lower division P.C. Tejaswi trained Good Earth (Sussex-Trivia / Pratap Stud) justified the strong support. Jockey P. Mani who usually doesn’t get to ride a favourite took Good Earth to the lead right from the start and brought the field into view in the straight. Passing the 400 metres board Catchy Charger challenged from the outside and went past Good Earth. Jockey Mani gave a couple of cracks to his mount and the bay colt picked up speed to regain the lead and drew clear. Ash Winder was third many lengths behind followed by Silvery Grey.

In the division I of the Dandeli Plate, V. Loknath trained Able Master (Stardan-Born Beauty / Rolli Stud) led for most part of the 1400 metres trip and won warding off. Able Master got to the front within the first furlong and there was no looking back after that. Piper Regina with a late effort edged out Croziet for the second place. Wings Of Fortune completed the frame.

Pradeep Annaiah trained As Good As It Gets (Royal Gladiator-Maxim’s / Pratap Stud) scored impressively in the lower division. Racing in about fifth till getting into the straight As Good As It Gets breezed past the front runners to grab the lead and staved off the challenge of Moonlight Love. Roaring Thunder warmed up late to finish a close third.
