Trainer M Sathyanarayana leading Dream Catcher (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Majestic Plate

M.Sathyanarayana trained Dream Catcher (Green Coast-Florshen) after a good attempt finishing third in the 2000 Guineas bounced back to winning ways in the Majestic Plate. The bay gelding with Suraj Narredu on the saddle trounced the opposition over the sprint trip. Sent off at a short price, Dream Catcher was held back in about sixth or seventh till rounding for home. Once on the straight Suraj brought his mount from the wide outside and when he let go, the gelding picked up speed and raced away leaving the field cold behind. O Ms Akhila turned out to be the best of the beaten lot followed by Baashagar and Vallee Sceptre.

Suraj Narredu signed off the calendar year with a grand treble. City Of Wonders and Semper Fidelis were the other two winners of the ‘Pro’. City Of Wonders (Varenar-Passion) gave trainer M. Sathyanarayana his first win of the day in the Malakpet Plate. The 5 years old showed plenty of early speed to rush to the front from an outward draw among the fourteen horses in the 1100 metres scurry. Maintaining a steady lead over the others all the way, the bay colt stretched out easily from Western Express and Commanding Boy who were in chase right from the start. Perfection completed the frame.

Semper Fidelis (Green Coast-Alero), the youngster from trainer Arjun Anne score a maiden win in her second attempt in the division II of the Gajasimha Rao Memorial Plate. The filly got to the inner fence from the outside draw as the gates opened and set out to call the shots. Inside the last 300 metres Suraj just niggled the filly to keep going and she lengthened her strides to trounce the field. Big Brave was with the bunch from the start and finished on in second followed by Exclusive Shangai and Aflatum.

Trainer Arjun Anne sent out a winner in the higher division of the race as well with a well backed Shaquille (Oath-She’s Hip). Secretary went on a start to finish bid with Shaquille in close attendance. On entering the straight Southern State started to move up from the outside and raised some hopes but Secretary shrugged off the threat and continued to hold forte. Shaquille continued to track Secretary and with jockey Akshay Kumar making a bid from the inside, slipped in to pull off a narrow win. Smarty and Rapid Fire finished third and fourth respectively.

Jockey Akshay Kumar who is way ahead of the others in the seasons’ tally rode his double through S.S. Faisal Hassan’s China Millenium ( China Visit-Lei Usha Stud) in the Meghalaya Plate. Racing well off the pace that was set by Sir Walter Raleigh, China Millennium was put on top gear from the extreme outside and the filly flew down the straight to land the spoils. San Vinto also made a late bid but fell short by a short-head at the finish. Symbol Of Star’s and Avantika filled the frame in that order. Rajneeti was a non-starter in the race.

L.D’Silva trained Supremo (Green Coast-Supreme Discovery) had to be ridden out by Arshad Alam to win the division I of the Dynamic Dancer Plate. The top weighted Columbus led from the start till into the straight but started to shorten his strides approaching the last 200 metres. Seven Eleven, Supemo, Starlight and Scooby Dooby Doo started to charge ahead at the same juncture and it was Supremo who travelled the best of them to wrap it off. Scooby Dooby Doo, Starlight and Sevel Eleven completed the frame in that order.

K. Satheesh trained Surprise Party (Noverre-Bridgeofsighs) who has been consistent in recent runs pulled it off in the lower division. The filly was taken to the front as the gates opened for the 1400 metres trip and led the pack into the straight. With a furlong left, the favourite City Of Sails and Phenomenal Cruise started to breathe fire but jockey Nakhat Singh kept riding out Surprise Party and the filly made it safely home. City Of Sails and Phenomenal Cruise finished second and third respectively, in a close finish. Exclusive Striker completed the frame.

R.H. Sequeira’s Ashwini (Stern Opinion-Stroke of Luck) won impressively in the Palampet Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 5 years old mare was blocked for a clear run in the early stages due to crowding of the field and jockey Koushik held her back with the backbenchers in the ‘no whip’ race. Once on the straight Ashwini came with a long stretched run from the extreme outside and swept past them all for a convincing win. Bouncer who was in the lead right from the  word ‘go’ stayed on in second followed by Sir Legend and Time To Climb.
