It was a memorable day for champion jockey P Trevor and a profitable day for the followers of the young jockey. Trevor rode each of his four mounts for the day to victory, a commendable feat indeed!

He started off his streak of victories astride Imtiaz Sait trained New England (Arazan – Autumnal, Highgrove Stud) the shortest priced favourite of the day. Trevor held him back in the rear of the four-horse field all through until they turned for home.

Ship Rock led them into the straight, but failed to sustain, caving in when Congressional came up with a challenge. However, when New England started to unleash his finishing run, the rest looked pedestrian. New England was levels above his opponents and simply zipped away in the final furlong to compile a fashionable victory by a big margin with minimum effort. New England in his current form can win again.  

Clymene (Western Aristocrat – Magdalena, Nanoli Stud) was another favourite that Trevor won and this time too it was a cakewalk. Pricelessgirl was quickly out and led the field with Clymene and Southpaw close behind, Tenerife and the rest in a huddled bunch following the front-runners.

Once they turned for home, Clymene outpaced the rest and in split-seconds and drawn away from them all, stretching out fluently to score a commanding victory. Clymene showed plenty of speed and class and appears to be a fiery sprinter with a future. This one was effortless and Clymene cruised all the way churning out a massive win which should see her progress steadily up in class.

Trevor next partnered Brothersofthewind (Rebuttal – Fantasy Moon, Hazara Stud) and timed his finish to perfection to carve out a well-fought victory. He was never prominent in the early stages, racing with the rear bunch as Frosted and Master of Trinity were up in front with Ventura and Relentless Pursuit close behind.

Master of Trinity made a forward surge soon on turning for home and grabbed the lead. Ventura was there but not making any head way. Relentless Pursuit was hard at work to stay in contention, while Pacific Dunes just would not quicken. Trevor brought Brothersofthewind from the outside and the Vinesh-trained gelding arrived with a scorching run to sail ahead and take charge in the final 100 and seal the issue. Kodiac Queen made a late dash and did well to finish a close second, snatching the runner up berth from Master of Trinity.

Trevor capped the day with another victory astride trainer SK Sunderji’s Wilshire (Phoenix Tower – Kalpita, Manjri Stud) in the concluding race of the day and this perhaps was his best show in the saddle for the day.

Abraxas darted into the lead soon on start with Speedo in close attendance, Touch Me Not was not too far behind, just ahead of Captain and Wilshire. Abraxas shot further ahead on straightening up for home and built a handy lead. Speedo started to accelerate and was soon gaining on the leader. Captain started to catch up with the pair in front and at the same juncture, Wilshire too began his assault.

Speedo tried hard but failed to match the speed of Captain and just when Captain was shaping well, Wilshire launched an all-out attack inching closer to Captain with every stride. The duo battled hard and were going neck-and-neck closing in on the winning post. Trevor and Wilshire gave it their all and pegged back Captain just in time to snatch the race by a narrow verdict in a thrilling finish.

Lord of the Sea (Deans Kitten – Enamoured, Sohna Stud) galloped to his second victory this season, his first over the 2400m distance.

The pace was slow right from the start as Sussex Pride led the field going at a leisurely pace with his three rivals following in single file. Baby Face was withdrawn at the gates.

The pace picked up only at the turn and Sussex Pride stretched further ahead in the homestretch. Harmony closed in and challenged the leader and Lord of the Sea took a stride or two before getting his act together and unleashing a powerful thrust at the business end.  Jockey David Probert had nursed the Shroff trained gelding patiently and Lord of the Sea produced a strong finish showing a lot of steam to storm ahead for an impressive win. The timing though was below par.

Uncle Scrooge (Authorized – Yesteryear, Nanoli Stud) pulled off an upset win in the opening race of the day, with a good power-packed surge in the last 100 meters. Daffodil and Bold March were putting in undue effort at leading the field and that probably left them stuttering at the end. Bold March led them into the straight with Daffodil being pushed to keep up. Glorious Eyes found the going tough but was all out in chase, not quite progressing. Uncle Scrooge picked up momentum approaching the distance post and in a final thrust overpowered Bold March and kicked away to win handsomely. Daffodil fought his way all through and succeeded in snatching the runner-up slot beating Bold March to third.

Trainer Narendra Lagad’s Art O War (Excellent Art – Perpetuate, Poonawalla Astonish Stud) scored a facile start to finish victory over the scurry thwarting the challenge of favourite Blazing Saddle convincingly. Art O War was challenged briefly by Blazing Steps in the early half of the straight, however, Art O War kicked on gamely to stretch further away to win with a measure of comfort. Sparkling Thea saved the place money ending a tame third.

Beshiktash (Phoenix Tower – Badiat Alzaman, Manjri Stud) made ample amends for his poor showing last time out and carved out a hard-fought win beating Renato in a keen tussle. Spiridon led them in and faded out as Renato took charge. Beshiktash improved quickly and joined Renato with about 300 to go. The pair fought out a pitched battle going stride for stride all through the final furlong. Beshiktash prevailed narrowly at the wire while Renato ended a gallant second. Cerrado edged out Grande Vitesse for the third spot.

Jockey P Trevor was the undisputed star performer of the day reaping in four winners. Trainer SK Sunderji was the lone trainer to saddle a double.
