Trainer Kishore C V G K leading Tremendous (Arshad Alam Up) Winner of The S.Rajashekar Memorial Cup

C.V.G. Kishore trained Tremendous (Sedgefield-Delectable / Jai Govind Stud) scored yet another remarkable victory in the S. Rajashekar Memorial Cup at Mysore. The bay colt that had won a 1200 metres sprint a fortnight ago made light of the 9 points penalty over the extra furlong. Jockey Arshad Alam preferred to keep Tremendous off the pace in about eighth while Saladin, Ontime and Poet formed the front bunch. Once on the straight the race favourite Poet surged ahead without much fuss and was looking good when Tremendous came down the stretch with a sensational gallop to assume command and stretched clear.  Poet stayed on in second while Excelonce beat Ontime for the third place.

Visiting jockey Imran Chisty rode a treble on the day, all at nourishing odds. He rode Safe Bet and Oceana for trainer C. Girinath and Kazuri for Vikram Appachu. Kazuri (Glory Of Dancer-Dynasty / Sohna Stud) who had won last exactly a year ago came good to pull it off in the division I of the Kutta Plate. The 7 years old mare stretched to the front in the initial stages of the race and was heading the pack as they approached the distance post.  Abderous came charging from behind and was up with a strong challenge but Chisty’s hard riding ensured that Kazuri stayed clear by half a length at the wire.  Zidaan rallied on in third followed by Skyjet.

Oceana (Glory Of Dancer-Untold Story / Manjri Stud) came good to win the division I of the Splash Plate, the concluding race of the day. The speedy mare was made to chase Atlantis right from the start and surged ahead inside the last 300 metres. The race favourite Perfecto came in late but Oceana was safely home by then.  Waterfall rallied on to finish third while the early leader Atlantis completed the frame.

Safe Bet (Royal Gladiator-Royal Haven / Pratap Stud) had scored his maiden win early this season and then ran unplaced in the next. The 5 years old bay colt was taken on a start to finish bid by Imran Chisty and made every post a winning one in the division I of the Kovalam Plate. While the winner extended the margin of victory in the final stages, Lightening Touch chased in second followed by Cereza and As Always.

Feroz M Khan trained Cyclops (Sedgefield-Star Alydar / Jai Govind Stud)  that had not finished on board in all the 21 starts after a win almost 27 months ago had come down to the bottom of the table in the lowest class. With jockey Amyn Merchant declared on the gelding, he was fancied to the hilt, ending up as the favourite in the bookmaker’s ring. Amyn took Cyclops to the lead as they settled down for the 1400 metres trip and never looked back after that. Zoe was a bit sluggish at start and after bracing towards the rear till the straight, came with a fast finish only to be the runner-up. Eudora and Pepper King finished third and fourth respectively.

Feroz Khan earned his double through Majestic Queen (Mr Mellon-Band Of Gold / Ruia Stud) in the lower division of the Kutta Plate. The 9 years old mare rushed to get to the front as the gates opened and set out to call the shots. She had an useful lead of over a length in the last 100 metres and that came in handy as Malkia and Bonfire were finishing on with a flourish. Tobin completed the frame. Bestow was a non-starter in the race.

C.D. Monnappa trained Time Always (Whatsthescript-Enchante / Manju Meadows) scored an encore in the division II of the Splash Plate. Taking a good jump from an outward draw, Time Always was sent to lead the pack by Arshad Alam. Sans Fronrieres was in chase right from the start and the top weighted gelding was pushed back to fourth by Al Dorado and Anonymous who came flying towards the finish.
