Laxman Singh schooled Athenaeus (Kingda Ka-Snow Cannon / Nanoli Stud) won the prestigious Darley Arabian Million (Gr.3), a terms race over 1200 metres for 3 year old horses, in an amazing manner at Hyderabad. The youngster looked very keen as he jumped out from the outermost draw and jockey Suraj Narredu let him go to the front. Man Apart chased the leader till the last 300 metres and was out of steam. David Allan started to work on the race favourite Corfe Castle  but found Athenaeus kicking clear in front and had to settle for the runner-up berth. Further behind in third was Mongolian King with Icon Grey completing the frame.

Laxman Singh saddled a treble to get closer to Satheesh who is now just a point ahead in the tally. Far Sight and Mirfield were the other two victors from Laxman Singh’s stable. Mirfield (Win Legend-Integrate) claimed the division 2 of the Lingapur Cup. Racing a handy third in the initial stages of the race, the filly slipped to the lead passing the 800 metres board and brought the field into view in the straight. Maintaining a good lead throughout the stretch Mirfield stretched out easily from Surprise Party and Baashagar. Green Image finished fourth.

The short priced favourite Far Sight (Multidimensional-Farrfesheena / Usha Stud) proved to be goo stayer while winning over 2000 metres for the second time in the Step Aside Plate. Halo’s Princess led from the start and was ahead by over four lengths as they turned for home. Royal Green was the first to take the initiative inside the last 300 metres and Far Sight who raced in fifth till the turn made a bid between the two. Far Sight strode out well under Kuldeep Singh and raced away by over four lengths. Royal Hero and Halo’s Princess finished second and third respectively while the rest of them were further behind.

M. Sathyanarayana trained Dream Catcher (Green Coast-Florshen) scored yet another impressive victory in the division I of the Lingapur Cup. Suraj Narredu on the overwhelming favourite Dream Catcher was unperturbed by the happenings in front and had settled his ward nicely in fifth right from the start. As they straightened up for the final run in Suraj let Dream Catcher go for the gap along the rails and the gelding cruised past the leader Dandy Girl and stretched out effortlessly by a widening margin. Sea Castle and Prince Caspian were in a close finish in that order for the minor places. Top Contender filled the frame.

Jockey P. Trevor used his wits to drive home L.V.R. Deshmukh trained Sublime (Excellent Art-Final Refrain / Poona Stud) past Staridar in the Olympic Flame Plate. Sublime was well off the pace in second last till approaching the final bend. On entering the straight Hukum, Staridar and Exclusivenorthwind were almost in a line and Trevor took the shortest way to slip in Sublime. Staridar was in a fight right through the final furlong and Sublime held out by a neck at the finish. Hukum and Exclusivenorthwind finished third and fourth respectively.

D. Netto trained Big Heart (Western Aristocrat-Ciel Fleuri) went on a start to finish bid and slammed the opposition in the division I of the G.V. Rao Memorial Cup. There was a fight for the runner-up berth with Champion Bull edging out Celtic Queen at the finish. Negress Pearl ended up fourth. Marina Del Rey was a non-starter in the race.

In a close finish in the lower division, Akshay Kumar had to ride out S.S. Faisal Hassan’s Southern Crown (Eljohar-Jingles) to stave off the bid of Vancouver. Southern Crown jumped out smartly from an outward draw and was in the lead within the first furlong. Vancouver was getting stronger towards the finish but Southern Crown held on by a head at the wire. Southern Promise finished a close third followed by On The Fire.

K.V. Srinivas trained Gangadhar (Samhoon-Ganga Divine) scrapped through to win the concluding race of the day, the Sangam Plate. Racing a handy third behind In Command and Golden Aliza, Gangadhar slipped through the shortest way approaching the last 300 metres. The gelding had a useful lead and that came in handy as Mean Machine came flying towards the finish only to lose out by a whisker. Reach The Heights and Rohini finished third and fourth respectively.
