Trainer B Prithviraj leading Silver Ikon (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Bangalore Turf Club Trophy (Gr.3)

Prithviraj-trained Silver Ikon is back in business. The authoritative pillar to post victory in the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy only confirmed that this Prithvi ward is a top class sprinter.

The winner was advantageously placed in at the scales against a couple of top sprinters including Siobhan and Smile Stone who have excelled in this class. And he didn’t shy away from making his mark and convincingly snuffing out the challenge of the two to make his owners proud.

The in-form Ultimate Warrior from Lokanath Gowda’s yard justified his top billing without really needing to extend himself in the O M Lingappa Silver Bar Trophy run over a distance of 2000 metres thus completing a hat-trick of wins.

On a day when most fancied contestants provided punters a big to smile, Ultimate Warrior to the delight of his supporters provided leading pro Srinath an arm-chair ride to success and on the strength of this performance is set to maintain his winning streak when saddled next. Astrild who set the pace all through the gruelling trip stayed on to finish second ahead of Frenemee.

We told you earlier that the Scottish pro David Allan is on top of his  game and another top ride on In The Spotlight helped his followers take home the green sacks. The Padmanabhan ward made all the running in the mile long Bold Majesty Plate and lasted out to score from the second in demand at the betting ring Sagrada who appeared to hang in at a crucial stage of the race.

The  A P Kothavala Memorial Trophy, a sprint event for juvenile saw Areca Legend, the progeny of first stallion Air Support romping home ahead of another Air Support youngster Air Command. The Imtiaz Khan schooled Peluche ran green but impressed most while finishing a game third.

Though making his debut as a four-year-old Deimus from Sulaiman’s yard was highly fancied to make a winning debut in the upper division of the Aihole Plate. But the favourite met a tartar in Alberetta who was a medium of a king-sized gamble from Irfan Ghatala’s yard. The winner despite an in-experienced Shamaz Shareef to guide his fortunes  was backed with conviction. And he proved his connections right sprinting home ahead of Deimus and San Bernadino. The lower division of the race saw Prasanna Kumar- trained half-money favourite Kvasir flying home.
Narayan Gowda schooled Likeaknife was one horse which was backed heavily in the Murudeshwara Plate and despite not being favourably placed at the top of the straight, powered through to score in emphatic fashion. Jack of Hearts ran on strongly to get the runner-up berth ahead of Tic Tac Toe and long-time leader Power And Strength. Princess Pride had her share of supporters but she failed to produce her best after she was certified fit to race. It is learnt that the filly appeared to be trotting lame to the gate but the vets cleared her and declared her good enough to compete.

Tamara was the overwhelming favourite in the Madhugiri Plate but the favourite narrowly failed to get the better of front-running Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna streaked ahead the moment the field negotiated the final curve and held on despite shifting out a trifle close home. Grecian Light and Yellow Zone finished on purposefully at end in this whipless race and the two are ready to make their presence felt and enter the winners’ circle in the weeks ahead.
