Michael Eshwer trained Sherlock (Holy Roman Emperor-Connessa / Manjri Stud Farm) won the M. Govindappa Memorial Trophy in a stylish manner on Wednesday at Mysore. The 5 year old colt had won the first start on this track after shifting base from Western India and repeated that feat with a start to finish effort over the mile trip. The top weighted Tremendous was in chase throughout the last furlong but the son of Holy Roman Emperor under Zervan strode out unmindful of the challenge. Reanna and Momotaro closed in late to fill the frame in that order.

S. Rakesh trained Amaris (Varenar-Pure Elation / Equus Stud) that had finished a suggestive second in her earlier start over six furlongs, came good over the additional furlong in the Bold Majesty Plate. Jockey Imran Chisty settled Amaris in third behind Country’s Princess and Nikka. Approaching the 300 metres board in the straight the ‘Princess’ started to fall back and it was left for Amaris and Nikka to fight it out. The latter came under pressure when pressed in the final furlong and the chestnut filly Amaris stretched clear. Nikka fought hard to stay in second from Malkia and Castle King.

Mysore has always been a happy hunting ground for the Manjri Silks. Their youngster Salute (Strong Suit-Meydana / Manjri Stud) scored an impressive win in the opening event of the day that was named after B. Khanna, one-time Handicapper and Secretary of the club. Zervan took the short priced favourite Salute to the front in the early stages of the race and was never in any sort of threat throughout the 1200 metres. Black Horse rallied on in second and Gintoki finished third.

Feroz M Khan trained Classic King (Mull of Kintyre-Yantai / Krishna Stud) was given a confident ride by apprentice R.N. Darshan in the Sankranthi Plate. The 6 year old gelding that had won last exactly two years ago got a flying start from draw one as the gates opened but decided to settle in second when Heaven And Earth rushed to the front. Rounding the final bend Darshan let Classic King to surge ahead and regain the lead. Flash Time had to work hard to get past Anonymous to be the runner-up. Travelyan completed the frame.

 T. Natraj trained Warlock (Varenar-Calorescence / Equus Stud) that had a lung opener on this track five weeks ago after shifting base from Mumbai was quietly fancied by the ‘connections’ and the colt wrapped up the division I of the Himalayas Plate. Warlock was down chasing the speedy Oceana right from the start and with the rider G. Sai Vamshi urging his mount hard, surged ahead to win impressively. Golden Cruise and Akimbo warmed up late to finish second and third from Oceana.

In the lower division of the race, the systematically prepared Clovis (Empress Wish-Dovers Hill / Bishan Stud) from trainer M. Bobby’s yard romped home in style in only its third start. Jumping out from an outward draw, Clovis got to the front to lead within the first furlong and won unchallenged. Andermatt moved to second in the straight and staved off a late bid by Good Earth to be the runner-up. Speed Queen completed the frame.

Md Sajid Qureshi trained Al Dorado (Abbeyside-Queen Amedale / Dhanna Stud) that had run a suggestive second in the previous start came good to win the division I of the Sirsi Plate. Taking advantage of the innermost draw, Al Dorado wasted no time in going to the front to lead the pack. In the straight Al Dorado started to veer out but still stayed ahead of the rest. Forest Queen came out of the pack and was finishing on but fell short by half a length at the finish. Erebus and Iroko filled the frame in that order.

Vikram Appachu trained Little Brown Jug (Multidimensional-Olivia Valere / Usha Stud) that had no recent form to go by scored a thrilling win in the lower division. Scorpene after racing a close third till entering the home stretch had gone into the lead and was looking good as the winning post got closer but Little Brown Jug came with a flying finish to snatch the victory by a whisker on the post. Pepper King started to raise a gallop late and finished third followed by Show Me What U Got.
