Most pundits were of the view that the Sulaiman Attaollahi-trained  Kangra will find it difficult to negotiate the 2400M Oaks trip after she went down fighting to Windsor Forest over a mile. But the Sulaiman ward proved them all wrong producing a gutsy effort in the hands of Sandesh to make every post a winning one in the `Ladies Derby, the third classic of the season. The favourite Windsor Forest lacked the gas in the tank and finished a poor fourth behind Implicit Trust, another from Sulaiman's yard and Sedulous Halfway home another Mumbai challenger Masquerade from champion trainer Pesi Shroff's yard broke down with a sesamoid injury resulting in David Probert being tossed out from the saddle. The rider was lucky to escape unhurt. Masquerade was later euthanized.

Prasanna Kumar-trained Anantara garnered the maximum support in the Republic Trophy run over a sprint and in the hands of leading pro Srinath produced a winning gallop at the all-important end to provide the followers of form a small reason to smile, only public choice to score in the eight-event card. Interesting gained the runner-up spot ahead of Royal Serenity and Tzar.

The Novice Plate for juveniles was an open affair. Satish Narredu schooled Mr Handsome who had a run gained the day from debutant Astral Force. Indian Pharaoh who also had a fair share of followers encounters rough passage at a crucial juncture and lost out.

Padmanabhan schooled Balian met a tartar in Wind Striker from Azhar Ali’s yard. In the mile long S V Subramaniam Memorial Trophy, Wind Striker who ran freely in front kicked clear when the race came on a boil to peg back the belated effort of Balian. High Admiral despite his jockey making every effort to add pep to the finish took the third spot.

The absence of a couple of good quality sprinters in the campus made the task of the nine-year-old Shivalik Star easy in the Kempe Gowda Cup. The old at tooth winner tracked the speedy Side Winder all the way up before storming ahead and comfortably pegging back the effort of the public choice Life Awaits. Justice Angle who performed below par in her last essay did well to gain the third spot.

Praveen Jesu-trained Goodwill Warrior fought out a resolute battle with Strong Conviction before he got the nod at the shadow of the winning post in the upper division of the Horanadu Plate. Find saved place money by necking out late-rallying Masters Glory. In a never-say-die effort the top-weighted Granada produced a winning gallop in the final furlong to edge out measure the front-running Wrekin to land the spoils in the lower division of the event. The favourite Emancipation finished late as is her wont to grab the third position ahead of Lassilo.

The Gulbarga Plate saw a king-sized gamble flop, the Britto schooled Rosebrook beating the Sharath Kumar-trained Pink Smile who was backed heavily. Rosebrook who had the first run on her principal opponent in the final furlong, managed to stay in front in the hands of apprentice jockey Darshan.
