JERSEY WONDER WINS CM'S TROPHY IN A THRILLER

By Ikram Khan | 27 Jan 2018 | BANGALORE

Mr Ananth Iyengar, Mr Jairam G. Kimmane & trainer KPG Appu leading Jersey Wonder (P Trevor Up), winner of The Chief Minister's Trophy

The highs and lows. The joys and sorrows. The fame and shame are all part of sport. And  you just cannot avoid the agony and ecstasy in the big journey. Trainer Sulaiman Attaollahi experienced this on Saturday. After the big high on Friday, Kangra winning the Oaks, Viscount put him on the big slide next day. The public rage competing in the Chief Minister's Trophy looked outstanding in the relatively small field of six runners after his smashing comeback victory earlier this season. The grey looked good in the paddock and again at the top of the straight when he appeared to be cruising past his rivals and in the next moment he was struggling and finally finished third behind the shock winner Jersey Wonder and Fabulous. For Sulaiman, Sandesh and Viscount it  proved to be a fame and shame week. And the joys ans sorrows like I mentioned are part and parcel of any game.

Viscount was considered a `moral certainity'. But in the sport of Kings it is the glorious uncertainties which provide the high risk dimension and that's exactly how the cookie crumbles.

The day started with the Neil Darashah-trained New Moon making a smashing debut in the juvenile event. It was Neil's first win this season and the young pro was all pumped up. He needed one to get out of the rough patch and the New Moon before the Blue Moon, the world is waiting to see in February will put Neil back on the winning track. Kanashni from trainer Darius Byramji's yard and New Moon garnered the maximum support in this event. The latter made a strong statement while Kanashni finished a tame fourth behind Tyto Alba and  Areca Angel who appears to have good scope for improvement.

Dazzling Beauty one other from Darius yard also experienced the highs and lows. A smashing winner on debut, she was touted as one `good thing' in the Dharmasthala Plate run over a mile. But much to disappointment of her big supporters she lost more than 10 lengths at the start and was never in the hunt. The five to one shot Nitromax won the event in the hands of Arshad Alam. So Mi Dar too was fancied by her connections and she did well to finish second ahead of Casey.

The Padmanabhan schooled Aaron The Baron was the top fancy in the Bharachukki Plate run over a distance of 2000M. But the favourite appeared to have lost his galloping shoes and failed to make the frame. The lesser fancied Star Carnation strongly supported by the insiders and the right connections gained the day in the hands of Imran Khan.

Trainer Prithviraj was very confident that his Miniver Rose will be hard to down in the upper division of the K S Premchand Memorial Trophy and he was proved right, Miniver Rose brilliantly piloted by the in-form Suraj Narredu edging out Chemical Romance and the late finishing Lady Barrington in a close finish.

Spurred by the success the followers of Prithviraj struck again through Regal Music in the Topmost Plate. The five-year-old after her shock win in her last start  readily provided an encore pegging back the challenge of Mickey Mouse comfortably at end.

Eye Sign from Neil Darashah's yard started the favourite in the lower division of the K S Premchand Memorial Trophy before big money came pouring in on the Gregory Sandhu schooled Ewandor. But both the top fancies floppedand to the delight of the more than 100 illegal bookies operating inside the premises of the BTC, it was Hidden Soldier who romped home in the hands of Rajesh Kumar.

In the concluding event, the Jog Falls Plate, the topweighted Incitatus and Shivalik Boy started favourites and in this event, Internal Affair came into big betting but at the end it proved to be one bad affair, the narayan Gowda ward finishing only third behind the six to one shot Quick Action and Galeno. Vivek piloted the winner from the stables of Inayathulla.
