D. Netto trained Punjabi Girl (Win Legend-Chapmans Peak / Dashmesh Stud) scored a stunning upset in the prestigious Godolphin Barb Million (Gr.3), a terms race run over seven furlongs for 3 year old horses. The bay filly after winning on debut had failed to make a mark in the Byerly Turk Million. Jockey Fergus Sweeney settled Punjabi Girl in second last while Dunkirk did the early running followed by Areca Legend, Catalonia, Proclamation and Shaquille. Big Brave trailed the pack of seven. Once they entered the home stretch Areca Legend was the first to take the initiative but was soon passed by Catalonia. Sweeney started to work on Punjabi Girl from the wide outside and the daughter of Win Legend responded with a brilliant gallop to swoop down on the front runners. The fancied runners Cataloni and Areca Legend finished second and third respectively followed by Dunkirk.

Jockey Zervan piloted L.V.R. Deshmukh’s Miss Lily (Phoenix Tower-May / Manjri Stud) to an impressive win in the Mother’s Boy Plate. After a good jump out, Miss Lily was settled in fourth behind Man Apart, Lightning Fin and Rahil. Approaching the last 300 metres Miss Lily streaked through the shortest way and was soon leading the pack. Rahil was in hot chase in the final furlong but fell short by half a length at the finish. Semper Fidelis ran into third followed by Lightning Fin.

Trainer Arjun Anne saddled the solitary winner for the day through Prime Time (Mull Of Kintyre-Marmalade) in the Allez Vite Plate. Prime Time was the smartest among the 14 runners as they took the start and stormed ahead to get to the front. Maintaining a steady lead all the way into the straight, Prime Time and jockey Sai Kiran drew clear to score unchallenged. Commanding Boy, Negress Pearl and Ruby’s Gift filled the frame in that order.

N. Ravinder Singh trained News O’Star (Surfrider-Outtostealthescene) upset the apple cart of the favourite Novaturient in the Armagnac Plate. Racing handily with the front bunch till approaching the final bend, News O’Star was a clear second behind Wild Wings. Passing the 400 metres board News O’Star surged ahead without much fuss and kicked on gamely till the finish. Novaturient was hard ridden but the filly just managed to collar Wannawin for the runner-up berth. Dean’s Gal completed the frame.

Trainer S.S. Faisal Hassan and jockey Akshay Kumar combined to lift both the divisions of the Rocky Plate. Khan Sahib (Eljohar-Dangerous Belle) won the division I by a lengthening margin. Khan Sahib won the start as the gates opened but had to settle in fourth while Time Is Luck shot clear followed by Bouncer and King David. Once they came into the straight Khan Sahib picked up momentum and grabbed the lead easily and stretched out to extend the victory margin. Humaaghar managed to beat Bouncer for the second place. King David completed the frame.

In the lower division, Shandaar (Lord Admiral-Duchess Of York ) showed plenty of speed in the straight to settle the issue. As they went past the 200 metres board Dear Friend, Time To Climb, Ikigai and Shandaar were almost in a line. Shandaar and Ikgai shifted gears at the same juncture and the former stretched out to wrap it up. Time To Climb and Dear Friend finished third and fourth respectively.

Zoheb Shaikh trained Chemical Daddy (West Verginia-Argentina) opened its account in his 13th start in the Ballerina Plate. The 6 year old gelding had gradually improved to be on the haunches of New Hope as they approached the 1000 metres. Entering the straight the two got down to fight it out and Chemical Daddy travelled the better to pull it off. Jayin warmed up late to beat New Hope for the second spot.
