Feroz M Khan trained Steinlight (Steinbeck-Psychic Light / Usha Stud) won the Continual Trophy but that did not come as easily as expected. Jockey Y.S. Srinath had to use every muscle in his arms to get the son of Steinbeck past the relentless Tax Free. Steilight had settled nicely in third while Tax Free went on a start to finish bid with Anteros in close attendance. As they straightened for the final run Steinlight came around the leader Tax Free and tried to grab the lead but Srinath was in for a surprise as Tax Free was in no mood to pack up and continued to kick on. Srinath was left with no choice but to use his ‘muscle power’ to get the gelding cracking and just managed to have a heave close to the winning post. Arak and Momotaro filled the frame in that order.

S. Rakesh trained Siddhani (West Virginia-Royal Guest / Nakul Stud) pulled off a stunning upset in the Solitaire Plate. The chestnut mare’s last win was exactly a year ago and she ran un-fancied at longer odds despite having come down considerably in handicap. As the gates opened for the 1400 metres trip, the race favourite King Smile took an awkward jump and dislodged the rider. Even Money called the shots and brought the field into view on the straight. Color Proof and Siddhani took charge soon and after a brief duel the latter surged ahead to score by a length. All In came in late to get to the money in third followed by Kazuri.

Rapunzel (Arabian Gulf-Roundtree / Manjri Stud) gave the ‘Manjri’ arsenal reasons to cheer as the youngster won the Sangam Plate uncontested, by a lengthening margin. The filly shot to the front as the reduced field of five youngsters were dispatched and enjoyed a sizable lead over the rest. As they approached the mid-way stage in the straight she stretched out to extend the lead to a distance. For the record Gintoki, King Star and Country’s Queen finished in that order to fill the frame. Coorg Regiment was a non-starter in the race.

M. Bobby trained Signor (Burden of Proof-Si Senora / Kunigal Stud) scored an encore in the division I of the Mysore Zoo Plate. Jumping out from an outward draw, the gelding moved up quickly to be with the front bunch and got to the rails in fourth. Once on the straight, jockey Sai Kiran did not waste any time and took Signor to the front. With a good lead on hand inside the final furlong, Signor went easy even as Golden Cruise and Catchy Charger got closer towards the finish. Intrepid Warrior completed the frame.

J. Saravanan trained Speed Queen (Diffident-Frequency / Yeravada Stud) pulled off a surprise with a start to finish win in the lower division. Point was in hot chase right through the last 300 metres but had to contend with the runner-up berth. Amazing came in late to take the third spot followed by Travelyan.

C, Girinath trained Zagato (Kheleyf-Better Off Red / Broadacres Stud) was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the division I of the Gerusoppa Plate and the 8 year old gelding scored a convincing win under S. John. Zagato travelled towards the rear till approaching the final turn and weaving through the field Zagato was quick to grab the lead as they straightened for home. Mysore Super Queen was the only worthwhile challenger in the pack but she found the winner too good and had to settle for the second spot. Flaming Spear and Gusty Ruler finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish.

G.T. Surender trained Dancing Blues (Chevalier-Associate / Ruia Stud) upset the apple cart of the favourite Jersey Bride in the lower division. The 6 year old bay gelding, a maiden from ten starts before the race took a good jump, was with the bunch in the early stages and dropped back to about tenth position. Dancing Blues found the path along the rails clear of traffic and quickly improved position as they turned for home. Once on the straight the race favourite Jersey Bride stormed ahead and broke clear from the pack. Dancing Blues in the meanwhile was pulled out and the gelding came with a flourish, covering ground at a rapid pace and snatched the victory from Jersey Bride on the post. Pepper King and Eudora finished third and fourth respectively.
