SIOBHAN WINS SPRINTERS TRIAL STAKES

By Ikram Khan | 09 Feb 2018 | BANGALORE

Mr Marthand Singh Mahindra, Mrs Rina Mahindra & trainer SS Attaollahi leading Siobhan (A Sandesh Up), winner of The Sprinters Trial Stakes Gr.3

After going down fighting to Silver Ikon in his last essay, the Sulaiman Attaollahi-trained Siobhan went one better in the Sprinters Trial Stakes. The winner who was better placed at handicap in her next head-to-head clash with Silver Ikon was fancied strongly and she romped home much to the delight of the followers of form. Suraj Narredu pushed the speedy Silver Ikon to the front but the moment the Prithviraj ward came under pressure at the top of the straight he caved in and finished in the ruck. Siobhan who assumed command at the distance post cruised home in resplendent style ahead of the late finishing Baracchus and Smile Stone. Bold Command from Ganapathy's yard, it appears is suffering from fatigue and it is time he is provided adequate rest before he starts his summer campaign.

The M R Singh trained Aeisir back after a long-layoff  looked a puicture of fitness at the parade ring and he readily justified the confidence of his supporters winning the Karnataka Police Trophy in emphatic fashion. The second in demand at the betting ring, Malawi who made a bold to make every post a winning one, found Aeisir too hot to handle in the final furlong and had to rest content with the runner-up berth.

Sriram Komandur schooled Diamond Rays who had finished second best to highly rated Sir Cecil in his debut was the public rage in the juveniles event. and the son of Tazahum had it easy snuffing out the challenge of Bergamot. Desperado ran on from behind to take the third position ahead of War Hero.

Neil Darashah-trained Dancing Dragon who was quietly fancied by the insiders and the right connections won the upper division of the Talakadu Plate in splendid fashion. The favourite Deimus who took a lot of good money down the drain in his first start again did only that much to the chagrin of the railbirds. Amazonite finished third ahead of last start winner Dynamism. The lower division of the race saw punters very confused, first Shades Of Fire starting the overwhelming public choice before money came pouring in on Striking Grey. Brooklyn Supreme too was a fancied one in the morning but it is clear that his connections chose to take it easy and this was reflected in the odds which drifted out from (3/1) to (8/1). But in the end it was Brooklyn Supreme who shocked all including all in his stable edging out Shades Of Fire in the hands of Ahsan Qureshi. Striking Grey was seen struggling to keep pace even before the field negotiated the final curve and eventually failed to make the frame.

Gregory Sandhu brought off a good gamble on Skybound in the Ullal Beach Plate run over a sprint. With apprentice jockey Md Akram declared to ride Skybound, the winner was ignored in the betting ring. Galeno was the favourite but the six-year-old gelding performed below par.  Bold Runner led the field into the straight but Skybound easily overhauled the front-runner in the final furlong and sped away for an easy win.

The day`s opener, the Ghataprabha Plate produced a shock result, the Inayathulla-trained Golden Success coming up trumps.  Love Is Life, Find and Declarationoflove were the fancied runners in the fray but they failed in their mission to make a race of it.
