Your Royal Majesty (P Trevor Up), winner of The Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup (Gr.3)

The first day of the summer season didn’t go kindly for punters, only three favourites including the public rage Peluche coming through in the seven-event card.

The opening plum, the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup was claimed by the Mumbai challenger Your Royal Majesty from trainer Pesi Shroff’s yard. The winner, who had failed to make an impression on this track in his last  visit to this centre produced a winning gallop at the distance post to peg back lesser fancied Shaman after the two joint favourites Kangra and Tutankhamnun packed up even before the race came on a boil.

The form pointed to Tutankhamun, who had won the Multi-Million at Kolkata and the multi-classic winner Kangra but after being favourably placed for most part of the seven furlongs trip, the two failed to quicken much to the disappointment of their followers and it was the five to one shot Your Royal Majesty who romped home to the delight of the Mumbai camp. Smile Stone did well to take the third spot ahead of the grey Amorous White.

Arjun Mangalorkar schooled Hot N Fire proved too good in the Elusive Pimpernel Trophy. Rum Runner garnered the maximum support in the event, but the public choice lacked the gas in the tank to make a race of it and eventually finished in the ruck. Zafran, who failed to get a favourable position early on finished on purposefully at end to gain the runner-up berth. El Fenix caught the eye while beating Super Success for the third spot.

Nityanand-trained Peluche looked outstanding in the Welcome Trophy run over a sprint. But the short-priced favourite in heavy underfoot conditions struggled hard before justifying favouritism at end. Sun Power who chased She`s Superb into the straight, shot ahead in the final furlong and battled on resolutely before Peluche got the better under the forceful effort of Zervan.  Flat Out edged out She`s Superb to save place money.

The Nithyanand-trained Free Port slammed the opposition in the Happy Valley Plate. The winner  piloted by Arshad Alam it appears is in great heart and is set to provide an encore. Annalease from Satish Narredu’s yard was fancied most but the favourite struggled to pick up steam and only managed to finish a poor fourth.  Aleef ran on from behind to take the second position ahead of Golden Opinion. Free Port’s success helped  Nityanand record a double.

The Padmanahan schooled Volatility won the upper  division of the Littleover Plate in a thrilling finish. Plate. The favourite piloted by Ahsan Qureshi encountered rough passage inside the final furlong before the public choice needed to be pulled out to score in thriller. Rosebrook who had stolen a march at the distance post had to rest content with the runner-up berth ahead of Grecian Light who is likely to earn his winning b racket when saddled next.

The on-money favourite Bergamot lost badly in the Royal Command Plate  and this hit the punters hard. The public rage who was touted a `moral certainty’ failed to display his true potential  and finished of the frame. The ten to one shot Florencia from trainer Sirajuddin’s yard came up trumps in the hands of Sunil Samson. Barog finished second behind the winner while Rhapsidion Queen ran home third ahead of Raw Gold.

The final event, the lower division of the Littleover Plate was claimed by the well fancied Pink Smile who showed a clean pair of heels to her eight rivals.
