Mrs. Chandrayee Datta Gupta and trainer Bharath Singh leading Shohin (Dashrath Singh Up), winner of Amazing Handicap

Totally neglected winners in the day’s two major events left shell-shocked punters high and dry at RCTC on Tuesday. Known to prefer a longer trip, Bharath Singh-trained Shohin (Declaration of War-Aptiana/ Lingwood Stud) was powered to victory by Dashrath Singh in the six-furlong race for the Amazing Handicap. Totalisator favourite Multivalue finished in the ruck while second favourite Multiple ran a decent forward race to finish second. Dashrath brought Shohin from mid-division to overhaul Multiple in the final furlong.

In the race for the Raghuvansh Cup, rank outsider Divine Magic (Rebuttal-Ashlynia/ Hazara Stud) from the stable of Shafiq  Khan, came with a blistering run from the rear of the field to peg back Tiberon at the post. Ranidan Singh’s mount paid a whopping Rs 374 for a Rs 10 win ticket. The two joint favourites Alyssa and Bojangles were not sighted in the six-furlong sprint. While the former seemed to be chopped off at the start by the latter, the latter received similar treatment from Jacknife. Neither of the youngsters had it in them to recover the lost ground despite the best efforts of their respective riders.

Trainer Vijay Singh and his able apprentice Nikhil Naidu combined well to bring home a double. The first of their winners was the filly Iconia (Excellent Art – Gold Matie/) who bagged the Dominate Plate in spite of drifting to the outer rails. The front-running favourite The Kiss also drifted out under pressure. Iconia pegged back the favourite close home. Oak Brook was a tame third. The duo completed their double with Victoriana (Burden Of Proof-Bobcat Greeley/ Kunigal Stud) in the very next race. The  favourite  Eastern Star was simply outpaced by  the filly in the straight after matching strides with her for a brief while.

Jockey Christopher Alford was first past the winning post while astride Big Star (Western Aristocrat-Knockenduff/ Yeravada Stud) in the race for the Arapahoe Handicap.  Following front-running Artificial till the top of the straight, the Raunak Banerji ward sailed ahead to win well from El Cid and Devotion.

The afternoon commenced with the Manvendra Singh stable landing a good gamble on Moira (Oath – Tampico/ Pratap Stud). The four-year-old filly won the Avaglow Handicap with a degree of comfort after Hindu Singh had opted for the rails in the straight run. Curtis proved to be a dud once again despite the best efforts of C. Alford.

The curtain came down with Sarfraz Khan-trained Constance (Admiralofthefleet-Constantina/ Kunigal Stud) landing another gamble for his connections. The filly came with a late run to put an end to the aspirations of Smith And Wesson and thus complete a lucrative double for Ranidan Singh. Second favourite Cool Conqueror was never in it.
