Trainer Laxman Singh leading Mozambique (Deep Shanker Up), winner of The Warangal Plate Div-1

Trainer Laxman Singh reaped a rich haul again with a fine treble. His ward Mozambique (Western Aristocrat – Jahanara) was confidently backed and closed at 10/7 on in the betting ring. The filly running the famous colours of RWITC Chairman KN Dhunjibhoy, showed out in the paddock and justified the strong overall support looking the winner for most of the seven furlong journey once they jumped out.

Jockey Deep Shankar did well to guide the filly from the outer most draw (11) to sit second behind Wannawin all the way into the homestretch. She gathered momentum soon on straightening up and zipped ahead with a furlong and half to go to triumph easily. Deep Shankar had to use his whip hand a couple of times in the final furlong though but eventually neither Apowerx who ended a notable second and early leader Wannawin could match up to Mozambique.

Trainer Laxman Singh had sent out two more on-money favourites both of whom won their respective races without causing any anxious moments. Southern Legacy (Tazahum – Gracious Melange) settled back in fifth after a good start, pulling back to avoid the congestion. As they turned for home, Nimble Mind held a slender lead and Southern Legacy soon came swooping down on the leader. She accelerated in a trice to storm ahead past the 300 and then won drawing away. Wings of Eagles improved in the straight to beat Nimble Mind for the second place.

Laxman Singh capped the day with yet another winner, Super Dart (Old Fashioned – Corlett), the shortest priced runner on the day and perhaps the most impressive as well. The grey three year old was in the 10th position at the turn but still looked good the way he was travelling well in hand right through. The pretenders were all out in front – a bunch of them, with Corsican in the lead and then Heaven Can Wait taking charge briefly. Young jockey Md Ismail pulled out Super Dart in the homestretch made his own way and the moment Super Dart got the clear run, he unleashed a terrific burst of speed to trounce them all and post a handsome win. Super Dart was clearly far too superior and should do well again.

Another pro trainer Kishore matched Laxman Singh on the returns with three winners coming from the former’s stables. Kishore had a positive start to the day with his well-backed Sher Afgan (Whatsthescript – Firefoot) returning home a comfortable winner.

Sher Afgan led a few strides before letting All That Jazz hit the front until they turned for home. Once into the straight, Sher Afgan moved swiftly ahead past the leader and in the final furlong stay ed well clear of the others to win by just under three lengths. Glorious Grey kicked on to peg back All That Jazz for the runner up berth.

Real Champ (Varenar – Queen Victoria) ridden by Arshad Alam took off to a quick start before settling down in second as Amazing Venus showed good early speed only to peter out in the straight. Real Champ made the forward surge just past the 400m mark and then had them all chasing in vain. Well backed at a lucrative 9/2, Real Champ thrilled his supporters by posting a comprehensive win. Lightning Fin made good progress in the final furlong to take the second slot beating Rose Petal by a neck.

Kishore had his biggest kill with rank outsider Symbol of Gold (Pinson – Saddlers Star) beating Meritocracy in a relatively close finish. Symbol of Gold shot into the lead soon on start and held the edge as they turned for home. Meritocracy started to move up to apply pressure but Symbol of Gold, although she shifted out a bit erly in the straight, held her ground stubbornly to stay ahead all through. Meritocracy gave it her all yet could only come out second best. Clarisa may have been hampered or tightened for room at a crucial juncture in the straight, yet finished close behind to take the third spot.

Sequeira trained Sarvatra (Surfrider – Agility) was tactfully ridden by Akshay Kumar to surface right on time to surprise the well-backed Exclusive Symbol close home. Escobar had done all the hard work early on leading them into the straight, but felt the pressure when Exclusive Symbol came around to tackle him. He surrendered meekly and just when it looked like Exclusive Symbol would get it, Sarvtra, who improved considerably approaching the turn, arrived with a big gallop to snatch the lead a couple of strides from the winning post. Escobar did well enough to hang to the third place.

Prasad Raju’s Guiding Force (Green Coast – Ice Castle) picked up a fluent win to notch up his maiden win on his eighth start. Staying a close third behind Sisco and Fabulous Art until into the straight.

Guiding Force then picked up momentum to get past the two in front and stormed ahead at a good clip to run away with the race. He won easing up and looks good for an encore. Fabulous Art and Sisco followed the winner home.

For the professionals, trainers Laxman Singh and Kishore saddled a treble each, while jockeys Kuldeep Singh and Arshad Alam scored a double each.
