Trainer K S V Prasad Raju leading Lady In Lace (P Trevor Up), winner of The Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel Karnataka Mile Championship Cup (Gr.2)

The overwhelming favourite Lady In Lace who went down fighting to Dancing Dragon in the prestigious Maharaja’s Cup, simply proved too good in the Renaissance Karnataka Mile Championship at the summer races on Sunday. The half-money favourite, Trevor Patel astride tracked the two leaders, Kangra, who has failed to perform to the best of her abilities this summer and Watchmyscript all through the mile long journey before Trevor reminded the darling of the nawabs the task ahead and the classy performer stormed through to score in effortless style. Watchmyscript gained the runner-up berth ahead of Kangra.

The principal added attraction, the Racing Patrons Trophy was claimed by the well supported Justice Angel from trainer Imtiaz Khan’s yard. The winner, who had finished second thrice from her four starts this season finally managed to enter the winners’ circle producing a good final burst to overhaul Booker Jones. Arshad Alam, who packed punch on Justice Angel earlier guided home the  strongly supported Game Changer from Neil Darashah’s yard in the opening event, the Borsalino Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Ciel Etoile from Arjun Manglorkar’s yard impressed most while finishing a game second and it will not be long before this filly will shed her maiden status.

Before leading in Justice Angel, Imtiaz Khan brought off a successful coup on Feeling Easy in the Meydan Plate. The winner was strongly fancied by the insiders and the right connections and the trainer, it is needless to mention was confident that Vinod Shinde was good enough to partner Feeling Easy home. Well Vinod justified the confidence of the trainer producing a copybook effort while for Feeling Easy, it proved to be as easy as sweeping autumn leaves from garden path. Romantic Haven finished second ahead of Rigelray. The favourite Arya Stark raced in patches and eventually finished in the ruck.

The owners of Feeling Easy, the Rai brothers, Muthappa Rai and Chandrashekar Rai, who enjoyed a good week-end, looked set to lead in Star Cracker in the next event, the H B Gundappa Gowda Memorial Cup run over 2000 metres before Trevor Patel in a never-say-die bid packed punch on the favourite Corybantic who edged out Star Cracker at the shadow of the winning post. Masada who opened the favourite before money started to flow on Corybantic finished a tame third.

The infamous Queen Latifa was backed to the exclusion of her 11 rivals in the upper division of the Camino Plate run over a sprint. The winner piloted by apprentice Chetan Gowda looked in a spot of bother at the distance post before the public choice sprinted through to score close home. Yash Narredu on Lady Barrington lacked the enterprise and the Rajesh Narredu ward who had gone down by the shortest of margins to Bora Bora in her earlier essay failed to make the frame.

The lower division of the event was claimed by the second in demand at the betting ring, Albaretta piloted by Zervan. The leading pro hit the front approaching the final curve and from thenon never let the initiative slip powering through to score in emphatic fashion. The favourite Optimistic Approach from Gregory Sandhu’s yard was never in the hunt and only managed to take a lot of good money down the drain. Mint finished second ahead of Prince Azeem while Tarini took the fourth spot.

The favourite Amazonite from trainer Irfan Ghatala’s yard and Striking Grey from the stables of Lokanath garnered the maximum support in the concluding event, the Allied Forces Plate, but it was the five to one shot Piper Regina from Parvati Byramji’s yard who romped home to register her second straight success in the hands of Irvan Singh. Czar Rule sprang a surprise gaining the runner-up berth ahead of Amazonite while Dream United finished fourth.
