Mr Tegbir Brar leading Sir Cecil (P Trevor Up), winner of The Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas (Gr.3)

Arguably the best horse on the Indian racing circuit, Sir Cecil from trainer S Padmanabhan's yard recorded his third straight classic success while remaining unbeaten from his six starts so far in his career. The champion from Dashmesh Stud Farm, who is in a class of his own was up against three mediocre rivals who lacked the ability to even pace with the star performer and the second classic of the season, the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club 2000 Guineas proved to be a walk in the park for the top gun.

Trevor pushed Sir Cecil to the front soon after the four contestants came under the starter's flag for the mile long classic journey and the classy grey after travelling nice and easy all through the backstretch detonated his rivals the moment he entered the straight, while sending out a strong message that the blue riband of the season, the Mysore Derby is at his mercy next month. Secretive Force from trainer Darius Byramji's yard finished second a `distance' behind the winner while Winning Heart edged out Teodoro to grab the third spot. The winner clocked a smart time of 1:34.18 seconds without unduly extending himself and this,it is needless to mention, warmed the hearts of his owner Tegbir and his master Padmanabhan.

Earlier, a bold and a fearless decision by chief stipe Raman and the Stewards of the Club in the upper division of the Margrove Estate Trophy provided a new dimension to the conduct of sport at this centre. The Warren Singh schooled Glittering Gold piloted by apprentice jockey Chetan Gowda lost a certain race thanks to the apprentice, who failed to provide the required saddle assistance and to make matters worse chose to only push his mount while showing the whip to the railbirds in the stands. It was a pathetic effort from the apprentice, who to his credit has booted home three winners this season. The Stewards in consultation with Raman decided to hold an enquiry into the running and riding of Glittering Gold and after questioning Chetan and trainer Warren Singh decided to declare the runner-up a non starter, thus saving the investments of the supporters of the public choice. It clearly was a good decision which delighted the racing buffs and it will do the game a world of good if the stipes and stewards from the other centres follow this classic ruling which will lift the image of the sport.

For the record, the second in demand at the betting ring, Surf Romance partnered by Suraj Narredu won the event while Noah's Ark who placed third moved up to take the second spot ahead of Bandito.

The lower division of the event saw the M R Singh schooled Idealist throw out the strong `Jodi' of Ultimate Magic and Lady Barrington. Leading pro Srinath in a never-say-die effort packed punch on the M R Singh ward to snuff out the challenge of the favourite Ultimate Magic, who in his attempt to make every post a winning one ran out of gas close home. Masada did well to finish third ahead of Nagarjuna while Lady Barrington failed to make the frame.

Srinath earlier booted home the public choice Andermatt to a convincing victory in the upper division of the Fleet Indian Plate run over a sprint. The favourite took time to warm up to the task as Order Order took control, but the moment Srinath shook him up, the Ranjeet ward raised a fluent gallop to overhaul the leader and retire home a deserving winner. Durer managed to save place money while the second in demand at the betting ring, Trevelyan disappointed most finishing a poor fourth.

The lower division of the event was claimed by another strongly fancied public choice High Response from the stables of local trainer Monnappa. Arshad Alam rode a copybook race on the winner while edging out Amazing Beauty who caught the eye and is one for the notebook.

In what was a very open race, the Pradeep Annaiah-trained Velocidad who was advantageously placed in at the scales garnered the maximum support in the Justice P Medappa Memorial Trophy run over a distance of 2000 metres. But the public choice after stealing a march at the distance post failed to peg back Mr Handsome who unleashed a powerful kick to gain the day close home. Knotty Ash, who encountered rough passage 300 metres from home finished a game third ahead of Free Port while Psychic Force, another fancied contestant shifted out violently soon after the start and lost all his chances.

The three to one shot Dare The Don from Vishal Yadav's yard  came out tops in the concluding event, the Lalithmahal Plate. Point piloted by John gained the runner-up berth ahead of Good Earth who will benefit most from this essay and is certain to earn his corn bill in the weeks ahead. The overwhelming favourite Black Horse from Bobby's yard was never in the hunt and this cost his supporters dear.
