Trainer S S Attaollahi leading Saint Petersburg (Ryan Marshall Up), winner of The Alekona Trophy Div-3

The smashing comeback of Saint Petersburg was the only talking point on Thursday. The talented Sulaiman Attaollahi ward who sustained an injury after his only start in winter was not campaigned in summer, providing him the required time and space to recover and recoup. Back in action, only for the second time in his career, the good looking son of Air Support  served notice of his potential winning the third division of the Alekona Trophy with his pilot Ryan Marshall not needing to move a muscle. It is true that he was pitted against a bunch of duds but the manner he jumped out of the gates and went through what appeared to be a morning exercise warmed the hearts of Zeyn Mirza and the trainer who rate him high.

The first division of the event was claimed by the public choice Mint who edged out the ten to one shot Rosebrook in a thriller. The Inayathullah ward on paper appeared a good bet and was rightly supported by followers of form despite the bad last draw. Mint provided his supporters a reason to smile but not before Rosebrook threw a scare a furlong from home before going down by a `head' at the end. Domitia who was fancied strongly for place by the Bobby camp ran home third  ahead of Nikka.

Lagopus, another bred in the purple maiden three-year-old from Sulaiman's yard garnered the maximium support in the second division, but he failed in his mission to shed his maiden status finishing a tame third behind the winner Daisy Duke and the runner-up Andermatt. The topweighted Andermatt called the shots for most part of the sprint trip before he shifted in and out approaching the distance post and this provided the seven to one shot Daisy Duke piloted by Anjar Alam the opportunity to score and the Duke and Anjar made most of the chance to gain the verdict close home.

The feature event, the Sardar K B Ramachandraraj Urs Memorial Cup run over a distance of seven furlongs saw Raw Gold help Inayathullah recod a double while flooring the railbirds. Last start winner Idealist was fancied most while Zafran and Gypsy too had their share of followers but the top three flopped and it was Raw Gold who struck gold in the hands of Prashanth Dhebe. Eternal Inspiration finished a game second and is one for the notebook. Gypsy is slowly yet surely coming into his own and it will pay to follow this Irfan Ghatala watrd when saddled next.

In line for a rare treble, Inayathullah's Golden Succes was the top fancy on the strength of her fine showing in her last start in the concluding event, the upper division of the Talakadu Plate run over a mile but the public rage was seen  gaining steam only after the rankoutsider Nyssa had stolen a march in the hands of apprentice Manjunath at the top of the straight and held on to peg back the belated effort of Love Is Life.

The well fancied Rustic Sunrise from Vishal Yadav's yard won the lower division of the event in a common canter. The winner who had impressed most while finishing an unextended third in his last essay donkey-licked the opposition in the hands of Baandal and is set to provide an encore. Fiorenzo finished second ahead of Ocean Park while Bazinga took the fourth spot.

In the opening event, facile last start winner Classic Jewel from S M Jhonson's yard recorded her second straight success in resplendent style and it will come as a big surprise if the mare fails to complete a hat-trick when saddled next. Big Time Bay finished second ahead of One Of A Kind while Lightning Touch performed below par and only managed  to make the frame.
