Trainer Bipin V Salvi leading Master Of Universe (Nirmal Jodha Up), winner of The One Life To Love Plate

Despite the fact that a couple of results shocked the followers of form, the final day of the Mysore season proved good for the punters, most fancied contestants nailing bold colours to the mast and a successful coup orchestrated by trainer Bipin Salvi on Master of Universe providing the Diwali bonus.

Backed down from (6/1) to (18/10) in the betting ring, Master Of Universe, who was making an appearance after a year was touted a `moral certainty’ by the insiders and the right connections in the Bipin camp. The four-year-old had impressed most in the morning trials and the Bipin camp was bullish about his chances in the One Life To Love Plate run over a sprint. They went bang-bang, the moment the bookies quoted him at sixes at the start and soon the `Master’ was the favourite. Lagopus piloted by Trevor Patel,  who opened the favourite was offered at (3/1) while the Bipin ward continued to garner support. It was a real big and brave coup and the `Master’ effortlessly justified the confidence of the supporters providing Nirmal Jodha an arm-chair ride to success. The consistent Domitia finished second ahead of Travieso while Lagopus struggled to make the frame. Master Of Universe who had caught the eye in his two earlier runs a year ago is back at his best and he will be the horse who will dominate the scene in winter.

The opening event, the lower division of the Jog Falls Plate was claimed by the six to one shot New Beginning from Ranjeet’s yard. Prashanth Dhebe astride the winner produced a good copybook effort on the winner. Little Brown Jug gained the runner-up berth ahead of My Valentine while the `Jodi’ of Lightning Touch and the topweighted Fierce Fighter bit the dust.

The upper division of the event was claimed by the public choice Reverberating from Kishan Thomas’ yard. Shoban Babu who partnered the winner kept his cool and appeared composed while guiding the top fancy despite the fact that the saddle artiste was driving home a winner after a long long time. Tea Wid Me finished a game second ahead of Spinning Chakram while Turf Prospector finished fourth.

On the strength of his impressive showing in his last essay, second behind the higher ranked Areca Legend, Hukum from Sulaiman Attaollahi’s yard was the overwhelming favourite in the lower division of the Karapur Plate run over a sprint. But the even-money favourite met a tartar in Mint who registered his second straight success. The topweighted Be Bold from Bobby’s yard, who had let down large following last week again finished third.

The upper division of the event was claimed by the favourite Rapunzel from trainer Michael Eshwer’s yard. Trevor pushed the winner to the front soon after the field of 11 runners came under the starter’s flag and never let the initiative slip, comfortably striding home. The victory of Rapunzel in the final event of the season saw most punters return home on a satisfied note. The second in demand at the betting ring, Dream Star finished second ahead of Dancing Blues who edged out Tzar by the shortest of margins to gain place money for his supporters.

Another well backed public choice Fair Game from Kishan Thomas’ yard,  who recorded a fine double proved too good in the the final plum of the season, the B K Krishnadevaraj Urs Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. T S Jodha astride the winner had it easy all the way in the straight guiding home the favourite. Surf Romance finished second ahead of Country Music while Oceanic Storm made the frame.

A facile last start winner, Lion, another from Michael Eshwer’s yard quoted at the miserly price (50/100) canterd home in the Nainital Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner is in rousing form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next in the winter season.
