Trainer Darius Byramji leading Psychic Force (S Zervan Up), winner of The Karnataka Police Trophy

It was good to see young apprentice jockey Nazer-Ul-Alam and Neil Darashah combine effectively to record a nourishing double through Queen Latifa and Full Bloom. The former ignored in the betting ring was offered at (10/1) in the Bangarpet Plate run over a sprint while Full Bloom was supported well and was second in demand at the betting ring in the upper division of the Brahmagiri Plate.

Areca Legend from trainer Prasanna Kumar’s yard and Louisiana from the stables of Faraz Arshad garnered the maximum support in the Bangarpet Plate. The latter after seizing the initiative from Areca Legend in the final furlong looked good to score before Nazer-Ul-Alam brought Queen Latifa into contention and the Neil Darashah ward snatched the verdict at the shadow of the winning post. The favourite Areca Legend had to rest content with the third spot ahead of Haedi’s Folly.

Full Bloom who had failed to justify favouritism in in her last effort going down to Varcasva produced her best to earn a winning bracket in the concluding event. The topweighted winner assumed command at the top of the straight and kicked on gamely to score from the favourite Point To Prove who again failed to prove a point after failing in his earlier effort too in Mysore. Look Out nosed out Likeaknife to gain the third spot.

The Darius Byramji-trained Psychic Force shocked the followers of form edging out the well fancied Peluche in the Karnataka Police Trophy, the plum event run over a mile. The winner piloted by Zervan was in receipt of five kilos from Peluche and this proved decisive at end. Knotty Ash too suffered giving more than six kilos to the winner and add to it the talented apprentice Antony Raj failed to pack the desired punch on the Prasanna ward when the race came on a boil. The favourite Snowdon from Padmanabhan’s yard despite being favourably placed at the top of the straight failed to match strides with the first three and eventually finished in the ruck.

Snowdon was not the only one from Padmanabhan’s yard who failed to justify favouritism. Indian Pharaoh and Princess Rumela too bit the dust in their effort to carry the public purse to victory. The former competing in the Chickmagalur Nirvanappa Shetty Nanjamma TMP Cup flopped in his exercise to justify the top billing failing to save even the place money. The eight to one shot King Of The Wind bolted home in the hands of Prashanth Dhebe. The Invader finished a satisfactory second ahead of Casey while Nitromax dropped her rider Sai Kiran in this event.

Princess Rumela in the Altenburg Plate failed to display her true potential and struggled to finish fourth. The lesser fancied Princess Pride from Nithyanand’s yard made every post a winning one in the hands of Darshan. Rhapsodyein Queen who was sweetly fancied by the right connections lost a race she should have won thanks to the ill-judged effort of her jockey Ganesh who alerted the Queen after the `Princess’ had gained control of the event. Miss Bolt finished on purposefully at end to take the third spot ahead of Princess Rumela.

Earlier the Satish Narredu-trained Treasure Delight won the Kokkarebellur Plate in a common canter. Neeraj Rawal allowed the public choice to do his own running and the moment the Satish Narredu ward negotiated the final curve it was clear that he would romp home in style. And he did just that emerging the most impressive winner of the day. Ciel Etoile again gained the runner-up berth, her third consecutive second place finish and hopefully she will go one better and shed her maiden status next time out.

The Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled Kashkha won the lower division of the Bramhagiri Plate in convincing style from Memoriter and Camila. Kashkha apart, the Pradeep Annaiah trained Harmonia was also fancied strongly but after being favourably placed Harmonia lacked the gas in the tank to quicken and eventually failed to make the frame.

The opening event produced a shock result, the 20 to one shot Lovely Sierra from Samar Singh’s yard  reigning supreme in the hands of Sunil Samson. Duty Call finished second ahead of South Bell while the favourite Turf Prospector was never in the hunt.
