EXCLUSIVENORTHWIND WINS INDIAN NAVY TROPHY

By Mahendra Mallya | 25 Nov 2018 | HYDERABAD

Mr G Narasa Reddy & trianer R H Sequeira leading Exclusivenorthwind (Akshay KumarUp), winner of The Indian Navy Rolling Challenge Trophy

RH Sequeira trained Exclusivenorthwind (Net Whizz – Amended) stretched his impressive run of victories to four on the trot, this time winning the Indian navy Rolling Challenge Trophy with an fiery finish. Found Money flew out of the gates to lead the field all the way into the straight. Exclusivenorthwind was in third just about a length behind Exclusive Wind as they straightened up, with hot favourite Corfe Castle not offering his best this time round.

Found Money was gritty in his approach and held on bravely, leading them well into the final furlong.  Exclusivenorthwind got past Exclusive Wind with ease, but was made to work hard by Found Money. Jockey Akshay Kumar had to dig deep and bring the best out of Exclusivenorthwind, which he eventually did in the final few strides to zip ahead with less than a hundred meters to go to finish off strongly and score by just over a length. Like Wise did well to come from the last position to take the third spot ahead of Corfe Castle, who just did not raise a quality gallop and was way below his par.

Ulysses (Saamidd – Aldiora), trained by Arjun Anne and ridden by Kuldeep Singh, pulled off a sensational win to claim the Golconda Cup in majestic style. Ridden well off the pace Ulysses made rapid progress on turning for home to make a scorching attack on the front runners to forge ahead in the final furlong to seal the issue. Evon Von Brando had just taken charge as he surged ahead of the early leaders. However, he had barely taken the lead when Ulysses arrived with his powerful finish and demolished all hopes in a matter of split seconds. Solo Winner improved exceptionally well to take the runner up berth, while Buttonwood ran on to finish in the money.

Nimble Mind (Burden of Proof - Systematic) came well off the pace to time her run to perfection in the Mauritius Turf Club Plate a race run over 2000 meters. While Rajneeti went for it right soon on  start, Nimble Mind raced in the rear and was the last one to turn for home. Rajneeti went ahead aggressively compiling a handy leady in the homestretch. Nimble Mind started to pick up speed past the 400 and started to bridge the gap at a good clip. It seemed that Nimble Mind would have it easy, but Rajneeti put up resistance even as Nimble Mind put her nose ahead. The pair dashed past the wire together, with Nimble Mind beating Rajneeti by a head.

Vijay’s Singham (Leitir Mor – Zarandja) caught the eye while making a terrific debut beating his rivals to pulp and flaunting his superiority over his opponents. He was out quickly and settled in third with Mehrzad and Cover Girl in front, the rest racing too far back considering it was a short sprint race.

Mehrzad pushed ahead in the straight with Cover Girl holding the fence. Vijays Singham perhaps could be faulted for veering out at the turn and that was his only flaw if one can call it that. Jockey Neeraj Rawal assumed control and then started to urge the Deshmukh ward. Mehrzad had built a handy lead in the straight, but the speed with which Vijays Singham came at him was simply too scorching. In split seconds, Vijays Singham caught up with Mehrzad and surged ahead at a blistering pace to stretch away, adding turf between himself and his rivals with every stride.  Vijays Singham eventually won by a whopping ten lengths and this was on his debut! He is bound to improve further and looks a good candidate for bigger occasions. Cover Girl got past Mahrzad to claim the runner up slot.

Moon Walker (Noverre – Special Guest) outpaced his rivals with a clinical start to finish bit, holding his ground when a semblance of challenge came forth in the final furlong. Jockey Nakhat Singh was focussed on the task at hand and rode out hard to keep the Sateesh ward well ahead to ward off his rivals. Moon Walker galloped relentlessly to win comfortably in the end. Take A Bow ran a tame second while Cash for Rank saved the place money.

Golden Aliza (Stern Opinion – Sylvia Says) struck like a bolt of lightning at the business end of the race to shock Ispahan who seemed well on course to victory until the blazing finish floored her. Ispahan had accounted for Red Bullet and taken charge approaching the distance post and was galloping well on his way to victory. Just when it looked like he was safe, Golden Aliza with Kunal Bunde astride, picked up flashing speed to devour ground at a very brisk rate. It had to take such a blinder for Ispahan to go down and Golden Aliza did just that to score her maiden victory on her 19th start. Ispahan ended second ahead of Patron Saint.

For the professionals, trainers LVR Deshmukh and RH Sequeira saddled a double each, while jockey Nakhat Singh scored a double.
