By Mahendra Mallya | 09 Dec 2018 | HYDERABAD

Trainer K Satheesh leading Like Wise (Nakhat Singh Up), winner of The Speaker's Cup

Like Wise (Dancing Forever - Farha), trained by K Sateesh,  made light work of the heavy weight she was carrying and showed out in the homestretch after tailing the field all the way into the straight.

Magical Skill led from the start and galloped at a good pace with Found Money and Air Strike in close attendance. Western Wind was next and Like Wise was last just behind Ashwa Raftar.

Magical Skill started to fade away gradually on turning for home. Found Money, Western Wind and Found Money were fighting for the lead when Like Wise started to warm up. Like Wise, making his run from the outside, looked the winner the moment she caught up with the bunch, it was evident that she was class apart. Like Wise, with Nakhat Singh in the saddle, simply ripped through them and within strides was up and away from the trio. She galloped effortlessly and sailed away to win by a big margin, dominating the final furlong altogether. She won the Speaker's Cup in style by over four lengths. Air Strike managed to pip Found Money for the second spot.

Big Brave (Western Aristocrat - Daily Routine) pulled off a clean victory easily keeping the more fancied Wave Rider at bay. He took charge from early leader Rutilant soon on turning for home and accelerated nicely to build a sizable lead. Wave Rider, perhaps was a tad too far and left too much to do at the business end. He covered ground briskly, but Big Brave and stolen a march and he kept the momentum going to outfox Wave Rider and bounce away to score a handsome victory. Wave Rider kicked on to finish second, while Exclusive Striker did well to finish in the money.

M Satyanarayana trained Curcumin put in a powerful finish to down Amazing Script inside the final furlong to score a runaway victory. Curcumin (Charmo - Hele), ridden by Naresh, was right up in the front bunch and as they turned for home, Amazing Script surged ahead to take charge, with Curcumin searching for the passage between horses. Amazing Script was shaping well and led them past the distance post which is when Curcumin arrived with a powerful run.

Curcumin stormed ahead inside the final furlong and floored Amazing Script and the rest with his fine finishing effort. he drew away to win with authority by a widening margin. Amazing Script held on for the runner-up berth as Soul Empress got too close for comfort and ended a neck behind to save place money.

Southern Crown (Eljohar - Jingles), trained by SSF Hassan, scored a comfortable victory, justifying the all round support he received in the betting ring. The 13/10 favourite, ridden by Md Ismail, led soon on settling down and carried the momentum all the way to the wire. He was challenged soon on turning for home, but that was soon doused before it had a chance to get any stronger. Southern Crown quickened nicely to surge further away from Gorgeous Lady, Marina Del Rey and Shandaar who were snapping at his tail just a stride or two earlier. Ismail relied on his hands and heels and cracked the whip sparingly as Southern Crown kept galloping at a good clip to steer clear and eventually win convincingly. Gorgeous Lady finished second ahead of Shandaar and Marina Del Rey.

Pontius Pilate (Varenar - Pure elation) made a smashing debut, galloping to a clinical start to finish victory. Jockey Ashhad Asbar guided the Srinivas Reddy ward nicely out of the gates to zip ahead and get close to the inner rails from an outside draw to dictate the terms soon on settling down.

Pontius Pilate led them into the straight and then marched on ahead as he generated fiery pace once inside the final 400 m. He shot further ahead in the second half of the straight leaving nothing to chance and romping home a clear winner on his debut and promising a lot more in times to come. Celeritas ended second ahead of Tough Lady.

Ace Ace Ace (Win Legend - Refreshing) proved she was cut above the rest with a fine show, galloping to a facile victory. She was right up there just behind leader Ashwa Arjun and these two entered the straight well ahead of the others.

Ace Ace Ace shifted gears soon on entering the straight and within seconds stormed ahead to build up a massive lead. She looked the winner long way from home as none from behind could even offer a fight. Jockey Koushik guided the Sequeira ward home posting a huge win by a margin of six lengths. Brave Warrior improved well among the beaten lot to peg back Symbolic Star for the runner-up slot.

Ashka Ashka Ashka (Win Legend - Masquenada) carved out a hard-fought victory and the excitement was building up right from the mouth of the long Hyderabad homestretch. Digger ducked out of the competition sooner than expected. Ashka Ashka Ashka was right there with Warrior Prince, Buddy Brothers, Yanga and and Top Contender all bunched up together.

Ashka Ashka Ashka and Warrior Prince surged ahead and battled hard all the way to the wire. Ashka Ashka Ashka had a slight upper hand and young apprentice jockey Abhay Singh stood up to the task, pushing hard and getting the Robin Reddy trainee to carry on and sustain the momentum all the way. Warrior Prince was gallant in defeat and stretched the winner, while yanga ended a close third.

For the professionals, jockey Nakhat Singh scored a double.
