FOREST FAIRY WINS MAHARAJA SIR PRATAPSINGH GAEKWAD TROPHY

By Mahendra Mallya | 21 Dec 2018 | MUMBAI

Mr Vivek S Jain leading Forest Fairy (P S Kaviraj Up), winner of The Maharaja Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad Trophy

Forest Fairy (Arazan – Forest Fantasy, Poonawalla Stud), ably ridden by young apprentice jockey Kavraj Singh, timed her run to a nicety to clinch the Maharaja Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad Trophy, the feature event of the day in style.

Star Councillor raced to the front and set a steady pace and he led them into the straight with Oracle in second and Turning Point moving up on the outside. Forest Fairy improved steady along the rails and switched to the outside of Star Councillor to make her bid. Turning Point made a strong challenge even heading them until Forest Fairy wriggled free and began to accelerate fluently. Once Forest Fairy got going, it was clear that she would get the measure of Turning Point, who had looked good until that point. Forest Fairy finished on spiritedly and to provide veteran trainer Bezan Chenoy his first win for the season. Turning Point ended on the haunches of the winner, while Texas Gold did well to earn place money. Favourite Masterofbalantrae was never in the hunt, the weight perhaps telling on him.

Kilkarry Bridge (Strong Suit – Sail By Roos, Manjri Stud) had it easy with a clinical start to finish essay and did not encounter any resistance from his opponents. He got down to business soon after the jump and held sway, with Take Five in close attendance. Once they entered the homestretch, Jockey CS Jodha had Kilkarry Bridge bounding ahead at a good clip and soon drew away from the rest. He sustained well all the way to romp home a clear winner by a good four lengths. Lorraine improved well to pip Miss Moneypenny for the runner-up berth. Kilkarry Bridge looked solid and can score again.

Roberta was a big disappointment, failing to raise a quality gallop at any stage. She was in the last position from the outset and well behind them all. Admo led for a while before Smasher took over. Once in the lead, Smasher (Multidimensional – Exquisite, Usha Stud) was always comfortably ahead and he continued his reign all the way through the homestretch. He came in with a sizable lead and then built on it nicely galloping at a good pace and won without dropping sweat. Roberta never raised any hope and finished second nearly ten lengths behind Smasher.

Tommaso (Helmet – Sweet Vintage, Nanoli Stud) came alive with a superlative performance to earn his maiden victory in a convincing manner. He took off quickly from the gates and darted to the front leading from the word go. Courageous Star and Miss Boss followed him close behind with the rest not too far away, barring Raweno who was slowly off.

Tommaso accelerated nicely once into the straight and soon sped away from Courageous Grey and Miss Boss. Tommaso looked the winner at the distance post as the others were struggling to catch up. The MK Jadhav trainee sustained it all the way to won with a good margin over Miss Boss. Copper Queen was ridden hard to finish third.

Dallas Todywalla trained Philadelphia (Varenar – Oh So Romantic, Equus Stud) produced a scintillating gallop at the business end to secure a fine victory and a long pending one. She has been running fairly consistently and had found one better on the last couple of occasions. She raced in second behind Furiosa until into the turn and then unleashed a powerful run to skip away from her rivals. Dusky Siren came with a late bid, but by then Philadelphia with jockey Neeraj Rawal in the saddle was way ahead and crossing the wire. Adele ended a good third, just ahead of Admas Beginning.

Emotionless (China Visit – Ohh Ahh Camera, Usha Stud) justified the strong support she received and got the measure of Astral Flare to pick up her first win at this centre and second overall. Astral Flare galloped into the lead soon on start and led them all the way into the straight.

Into the straight, Astral Flare had a handy lead with Wilshire a couple of lengths behind. Emotionless started to warm up and jockey Trevor had to urge her on. Emotionless had to be ridden hard and Astral Flare still had some ground to defend. It looked a close race as Emotionless started to inch closer with every stride in the last 150 meters and then after a brief tussle, Emotionless surged ahead to seal the issue. Astral Flare ended a good second, while Wilshire fought on to save place money.

Allegria (Chevalier – Splendid Monarchy, Ruia Stud) finally achieved a memorable first win on her 18th start. She settled in fourth position as Whoopsidaisy led them into the straight with Samurai on the outside, ready to pounce on the leader. Samurai dashed ahead past the 400 to take charge but Allegria picked up momentum soon after and zipped past Samurai to stretch clear draw away from them all. Allegria, with apprentice AS Peter in the saddle, romped home a clear winner. Saffron Flower did well to come from a long way back to pip Samurai for the runner up berth.
