Trainer Arjun Anne leading Semper Fidelis (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Lingapur Cup

Semper Fidelis (Green Coast – Alero) trained by Arjun Anne and strongly ridden by jockey Akshay Kumar raised a spirited gallop when it mattered most to down hot favourite Super Dart and snatch as well-fought victory to win the Lingapur Cup.
On-money favourite Super Dart got straight down to business leading them comfortably all the way into the straight. Semper Fidelis, who was close behind the leader sprang up on the outside past the 400m mark. Super Dart looked well in hand coming into the straight but when challenged, soon got under pressure. Samper Fidelis loomed large and got alongside Super Dart with 300m to go and the pair fought neck and neck all the way to the winning post, leaving the others far behind. It was a tw-horse race alright and the long fight was thrilling to watch. Semper Fidelis eventually wore down Super Dart to carve out a narrow half-length victory. Sea Castle, who was up with the front runners until into the straight, finished a faraway third well ahead of Tootise Roll.

Deshmukh trained King Maker (Varenar – Yemen Desert) pulled off a brave start to finish victory lasting out the mile trip while successfully warding off the late bid from The Special One. King Maker darted into the lead and built up a nice cushion entering the straight. He was well ahead of the rest with Euro Zone about three lengths adrift with less than two furlongs to go. The Special One was even further behind and had a lot of catching up to do. Neither Euro Zone nor favourite Golden Fortune were up to it as King Maker kicked on gamely towards the finish. The Special One got going in the final furlong, but with the longish leeway to cover, he never had enough ground to overhaul King Maker. Jockey SS Tanwar rode out vigorously and ensured that King Maker galloped all the way and win the Coral Gables Cup with half a length to spare.

Jockey Suraj Narredu guided hot favourite Top Link (Top Class – Mizzna) to a comfortable victory causing no anxiety to his large number of backers. He was poised readily in second behind Apowerx all the way into the straight and got going soon after. He collared Apowerx approaching the distance post and Suraj rode out strongly to drive the Laxman Singh trainee ahead with a good forward surge. Top Link galloped away fluently thereafter and left no chance for his rivals to get any closer. Apowerx ran on to end second, while Vancouver did catch the eye while finishing a close third. Vancouver was slow into the stride at the start and was detached last until the turn. He made a smooth forward charge along the rails and did well in the end to earn the place stakes.

Love Machine (Knight’s Tour – Run for Roses) showed tremendous improvement over his two previous runs to make this one a one horse race while achieving his maiden success. He led from early on and entered the straight with a handy lead. He did drift out under pressure running green approaching the distance post, but jockey Deepak Singh ensured that the D Netto trainee did not lose momentum. On the contrary, Love Machine increased acceleration and in the last 150 or so drew away from the rest to win by a distance. Shivalik Sand just managed to snatch the runner up berth from Run Runner Run.

Long-shot Heaven Can Wait (Eljohar – Have Nagila) produced a terrific burst of speed at the business end to dash past two rivals as they were fighting for supremacy going for the wire in full flight. Heaven can Wait had darted to the front at the start only to settle back in fourth until into the straight.

Ispahan had just taken charge and was galloping towards the winning post when Moon Dancer caught up with him to challenge. This pair fought hard through the final furlong, with Ispahan holding him well and shaping like the winner. Heaven Can Wait, who was racing close behind these two, switched lanes and arrived with a scintillating finishing run to shock Ispahan in the shadow of the winning post to notch up a thrilling victory. This was a fourth second place standing doe Ispahan who did everything right until beaten close home. Moon Dancer ended a fighting third.

Take A Bow (Strategic Prince – Queen of Palms) stalked leader Razor Wind all the way into the homestretch and then unleashed a powerful run to stretch out ahead, leaving the rest to do the catching up. Take a Bow, with apprentice Jitendra Singh in the saddle, benefitted from the five-kilo claim as he hurtled down the straight without encountering any threat. Withrosemakeup, Ice Crystal and Cash for Rank were the ones left to fight for the minor placing.

Ravindra Singh trained Southern Meteor (Ravel – Calliope) gave an easy ride for apprentice Gaurav Singh while winning the concluding race of the day. However, there was an ugly jostle early in the race when Southern Meteor came inwards sharply and bumped into horses along the inside in the early stages.

Trumph Boy led them into the straight and was first challenged by Dance All Night who got past the leader past the distance post. Southern Meteor then picked up speed and within strides pounced on the new leader and the sped away without encountering any resistance. Southern Meteor progressed fluently and piled up a healthy lead past the post leaving the rest struggling. Dance All Night Held Top Singer by a length for the runner up slot.
