Mr Teja Gollapudi & trainer Laxman Singh leading Marinetti (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Darley Arabian Million (Gr.3)

Laxman Singh trained Marinetti (Fast Company – Maynsha Girl) lived up to her top billing while winning the Darley Arabian Million (Gr3) the feature race of the day in style. Mon General darted into the early lead and was followed closely by Marinetti and Consigliori until the turn.

Marinetti with jockey Akshay Kumar in the saddle, accelerated smoothly and cruised into the lead soon after and set off at a good clip. She stayed well ahead of competition and kicked on to win comfortably, looking good to add to her victory next time out as well. Consigliori worked hard all through the straight to just managed to keep his nose in front of the wire to hold on to finish second from the fast finishing Agni.

Ice Warrior (Net Whizz – Christmas Fever) picked up his maiden with a burst of brilliance at the business end. He was not too far behind the action as settled along the inner rails behind Havelock Cruise and was ready to pounce on the leader as they turned for home.

Ice Crystal was travelling well as he came along side Havelock Cruise and easily surged past to take charge. Once in the lead, he left his rivals panting and soon was way ahead of the rest. Khloe had to improve position as he was towards the rear end and he made his move, galloping at the centre of the track. However, he veered inwards under pressure and there was jostle with Private Empire who was on his immediate inside. Ice Crystal had sewn up the race long before and with a lot to spare. Khloe and Havelock Cruise were separated by a quarter-length and Private Empire another length behind fourth. Private Empire’s jockey lodged an objection against both the second and third finishers which was overruled. However, later in the day, the stewards looked into the race and found jockey Akshay Kumar guilty of dangerous/reckless riding and suspended him for one race day.

Latest News (Roi Maudit – Ice Stone) won the opening race of the day and he had to fight all the way to ward off his challengers. Latest News strode out into the lead soon on turning for home moving nicely along the rails to first get past long-time leader Air Salute. He stretched ahead to establish a handy lead but had Promiseofhappiness, hurricane and Dandy Man coming at him at a brisk rate. Jockey Akshay Kumar rode out relentlessly to see the turf through and ensured that there were no last minute blushes for the D Netto trainee. Dandy Man was badly positioned until the turn and had to skirt around the entire bunch to find a freeway. He galloped strongly in the final furlong, but had too much to do, without adequate ground to make it to the wire first. He ended up on the haunches of the winner, while Promiseofhappiness edged out hurricane for the place stakes.

Prasad Raju’s Marvel Princess (Mull of Kintyre – Queveda) had it much easier while scoring an easy start to finish victory. Marvel Princess was off from the gates in a flash and hit the front to lead them all the way into the straight. She quickened further in the hands of jockey N Rawal inside the homestretch to gallop away to score by a healthy margin. Secretary improved in the straight to finish second to beat Handsome Duo for the runner up berth.

NRI Symbol (Dancing Forever – Secret Path) produced a good burst of speed to romp home a clear winner to bag the Artistic Tribute Cup Div I run over 1600m. Takisha freewheeled into the straight and soon ran out of gas. Vijay’s Empire and NRI Symbol who were close behind got past the leader easily but NRI Symbol ridden by SS Tanwar surge ahead quickly to storm into the lead and pull of a convincing victory, looking the winner the moment she had taken charge. Vijay’s Empire had to be content with the second best slot, finishing just ahead of Avantika. Euro Zone ran on to finish a tame fourth. Euro Zone stumbled and unbalanced the jockey, who all but fell off well before the final turn and that could be a reason for his ordinary performance.

Somerset (Steinbeck – Royal Confidence) trained by L D’Silva arrived with a big stretch run to stud Bayrd who shaped well until beaten. Always up with the leader, Bayrd had no trouble storming ahead of Ikigai soon on turning for home. Jockey Akshay Kumar charged ahead and all seemed going well for the even-money favourite, more so as his closest rival Hope is Eternal was not sighted as Bayrd made a dash past the distance post. Somerset warmed up and jockey BR Kumar sensing his chances rode all out and pull off an incredible win close home. Hope is Eternal ran on to improve position and managed to pip On My Way to take the third spot.

Dancing Doll (Net Whizz – Silvery Star) timed her final run to perfection to win the upper division of the Red Orchid Cup in an exciting finish. Man Apart and Baywatch Babe were inseparable as they sped towards the final turn, with Running Fire in third and Dancing Doll not too far behind.

ON turning for home, the pair in front stayed together for a few strides when Running Fire came alongside with a game challenge. At that very juncture, Dancing Doll with Md ismail in the saddle, lit up and picked up speed. Ismail pushed hard and got Dancing Doll abreast with Running Fire. They fought all the way to the wire, with Dancing Doll, saddled by Arjun Anne finishing on a lot better in the last few strides to win by a little over a length. Vega Cassandra, who was a bit sluggish after the jump and tailing the field, ended a farawat third.

Brush The Sky (Sussex – Mayfair) finished with a flourish to win the concluding race of the day. Trumph Boy did most things right but when it mattered, he packed up way too soon. Jazz it Up took charge briefly before Brush The Sky arrived all guns blazing and complete floored his rivals to win by two lengths. Bombastic rallied on well to pip Jazz it Up for the runner-up berth.

For the professionals, jockeys Akshay Kumar and Md ismail scored a double each.
