The top saddle artiste Trevor Patel warmed up nicely for the Derby day, winning both the plums, the Bangalore Race Course Commemoration Trophy on Naazaan and the Ravi Aggarwal Memorial Million on the talented juvenile Anjeze.

The Sulaiman Attaollahi-trained Anjeze, who had made a smashing debut looked head and shoulders above her five rivals in the Ravi Aggarwal Memorial Million. The filly after her winning debut had improved most, evident from her pleasing performances on the trial track and Trevor didn’t need to break a sweat, while guiding her home to the delight of the followers of form. Anjeze so far looks the best among the young winners at this centre and her progress in the months ahead is certain to evoke interest. Last start winner Desert Rose from Prasanna Kumar’s yard finished second ahead of another debut winner Star Cavalry, while debutant Indian Democrat came home fourth.

In the next event, the Commemoration Trophy, the topweighted Booker Jones was the top fancy but the Darius Byramji ward after being prominent for most part of the mile long trip failed to quicken and eventually finished in the ruck. Trevor astride the consistent Naazaan from Sharath Kumar’s yard won the feature event in emphatic fashion, the second in demand at the betting ring producing a fine gallop in the final furlong to floor her five rivals. Iris in the hands of Anjar Alam finished a game second while Star Carnation, who at one stage looked good to score had to rest content with the third spot.

In the upper division of the Premium Spirit Plate run over a sprint, Agnar from Pradeep Annaiah’s yard, who surprised most in his last effort and Bold Move garnered the maximum support. But it was the lesser fancied Gold Mist who stole the limelight in the hands of Suraj Narredu. Streak Ahead in her attempt to make every post a winning one was beaten by the winner while Agnar failed to make the frame.

In the lower division of the event, the 20 to one rankoutsider As Good As It Gets shocked the followers of form The winner piloted by A R Pradeep edged out Capstone while the top fancy Majestic Rajkumari only managed to take a lot of good money down the drain.

After failing to earn a winning bracket on more than four occasions, Ciel Etoile from Arjun Manglorkar’s yard broke the ice in the Kumararajah M A M Muthiah Trophy. The 10 to one shot edged out Shesmyscript in a thriller, a neck separating the two at the wire in the mile long event. The favourite King Of The Wind finished third saving the place money by a whisker from Akita Pro.

IDO What I DO and Memoriter garnered the maximum support in the lower division of the Raichur Plate run over a mile. But here too the `Jodi’ went out of the window, another ten to one shot Prince Charmo from Samar Singh’s yard stunning the railbirds in the hands of lesserlight Janardhan Paswan. Memoriter went down fighting while IDO What I Do disappointed most finishing a tame fourth.

The upper division of the event saw the well fancied Marco Polo chalk out an impressive victory in the hands of Srinath. King Creole finished second ahead of Bazinga while the two other fancied runners, Constantinople and Santiago bit the dust.

The opening event, the Ullal Beach Plate was claimed by the Faraz Arshad-trained Fierce Fighter who produced his best to convincingly beat Classic Speed and the favourite Aafrikaan.
