Trainer Warren Singh leading Nanhipari (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Daria Daulat Cup

After failing to display her true potential more than three times when her connections thought she would enter the winners' circle, Nanhipari from trainer Warren Singh's yard produced her best over a trip which she relishes most. The grey partnered by the darling of the nawabs from Hyderabad, Akshay Kumar hit the front soon after the field of seven runners came under the starter's flag for Daria Daulat Cup, the plum event run over a distance of 2000M and never let the initiative slip, while sending a strong message to her connections that this is what she likes, competing in long distance trips. It was clear from the start that Nanhipari always enjoyed doing long journeys and the moment she got a chance, she produced her best to the delight of her owner,Amubhai V Rukhana.

Amubhai disclosed that after her below par efforts in her two earlier starts he chose to sit in the comfort of his living room, but to his surprise the `Pari' produced her best and that came as a pleasant surprise. "She performed badly in her last essay and I didn't give her much of a chance though I knew she  was going over a trip which suits her style. The fact that she comfortably won the feature event suggests that she is ready to provide an encore if she is pitted over long distance trips," said Amubhai pleased that his Nanhipari had won the big one on Friday.

The Neil Darashah schooled Star Cracker was the favourite in this event but the public choice after raising hopes at the top of the straight failed to keep it going and eventually finished in the ruck. The moody Dr Logan from Irfan Ghatala's yard gained the runner-up berth ahead of Sea King while Super Smart took the fourth spot.

The principal added attraction, the Shivanasamudra Cup produced a shock result, the ten to one shot Benediction from trainer Darius Byramji's yard galloping home first in the hands of Irvan Singh. Star In His Eyes piloted by Yash Narredu was seen finishing on fastest end to take the second spot ahead of the strongly fancied favourite Prodigal.

Akshay Kumar who lost out on Prodigal earlier booted home the Prasanna Kumar-trained Roma Victor to an emphatic victory in the Juveniles event run over a sprint. The progeny of Gusto produced a stunning gallop in the final furlong to edge out the public choice Dragon Mountain from Satish Narredu's yard after the debutant looked set to hoist the winning flag in his maiden attempt. The speedy Electra, who did the early running held on to save place money while Bombix without really extending himself came home fourth. The Sirajuddin ward, it is needless to mention will benefit from this exercise and it will pay to follow him in his next start.
Twice second, the Arjun Manglorkar schooled Streak ahead was considered a good thing in the Classic Story Plate run over a 1100M dash. Many were of the view that John back after a long gap would start his campaign on a winning note and that the Arjun ward would help provide John a shot in-the-arm. But that did not happen. After leading for most part of the trip, Streak Ahead retired when the race came on a boil much to the disappointment of the followers of form. Bold Runner from Dheeraj's yard powerfully piloted by the Delhi-based Dhanu Singh Deora gained the day pegging back the belated effort of Fantastic App and Nostradamus who was fancied strongly in place.

Trainer Prithviraj won the last two races through the two public choices, Secret Superstar and IDo What I Do. The former partnered by Darshan proved too good in the Davangere Plate run over a sprint, toying with his 11 rivals at the end. Sun Power finished second ahead of Honey Trap while Great Celebration completed the frame. Secret Superstar is in fine nick and it will surprise many if this Prithviraj ward fails to win again when next saddled.

IDO What I Do despite the apprentice Akram to guide his fortunes was the overwhelming on-money favourite in the concluding event, the Yedamuri Falls Plate run over seven furlongs. The public rage after tracking Good Word for most part of the trip streaked ahead at the distance post before putting the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Good Word held on to take the runner-up berth ahead of Jersey Storm who caught the eye while finishing a eye-catching third.
