TETRA RAMA WINS GODOLPHIN BARB MILLION (GR3)

By Mahendra Mallya | 11 Feb 2019 | HYDERABAD

Trainer Laxman Singh leading Tetra Rama (Akshay Kumar up), winner of The Godolphin Barb Million (Gr.3)

Jockey Akshay Kumar hogged all the limelight yet again with rich haul of five winners thus dominating through the eight-event card. He was at his aggressive best and nailed it in three close finishes that could have gone either way, His best ride for the day was perhaps in the feature event of the day, the Godolphin Barb Million (GR3) for three-year-old juveniles.

Partnering Laxman Singh's ward Tetra Rama (Mount nelson - La Surama) Akshay Kumar settled Tetra Rama in second behind Victory Parade. Agni and Consigliori followed close behind with Cape Kidnappers and Flamboyant Lady not too far behind.

Victory Parade kicked on spiritedly and was shaping well past the 400 m marker, Tetra Rama started to accelerate and was inching closer to Victory Parade. Agni too started gaining on the pair in front. At the distance post, it looked anybody's race with Victory Parade slightly ahead and Tetra Rama and Agni providing a game challenge, all three riders going all out at top speed. Tetra Rama and Agni managed to get past Victory Parade just a stride or two before the winning post, but at the wire, it was Tetra Rama who nosed it in the nick of time to prevail by the shortest of margins. Akshay Kumar had managed to get the bob of the head right and was assertive right through the long Hyderabad straight.

The Akshay magic was evident in another close finish earlier in the day, this one atop Marvel Princess (Mull of Kintyre - Queveda) from trainer Prasad Raju's yard.

Marvel Princess had led them into the straight and was galloping at a good clip past the 400m mark. Man Apart was travelling smoothly along the inner rails and seemed to be biding his time. Man Apart made his final move approaching the distance post and covered the marginal deficit with ease to challenge Marvel Princess. The duo fought stride for stride and Man Apart even headed the on-money favourite momentarily. Akshay Kumar however, got the filly to rally and Marvel Princess fought back bravely to snatch victory from the jaws of what a couple strides before looked a certain defeat. The filly literally re-ran to grab the lead just in time to swing the fortunes back in her favour.

Trump Girl's victory was another piece of brilliance from the saddle as Akshay Kumar was right up to the task.

Platinum led the field homewards with Arc of History progressing well on her outside; Trump Girl was along the rails with a couple of others including Riddari catching up fast. Trump Girl poked through between horses, while Arc of History had a clear run ahead. But even as Arc of History could build on the slender lead, Trump Girl mustered well and shot ahead in the final 50 meters to race ahead and clinch the race by a neck. Akshay had timed his run to precision and that made the difference in the scramble for the finish. Arc of history ended a good second, while la Mer improved to beat Nayadeep for place money.

Jockey Akshay Kumar had started the day on an auspicious note with a facile victory astride trainer D Netto's Celeritas (Total Gallery - Admiration) in the day's opener.

Celeritas jumped out smartly and sailed into the lead keeping well ahead all the way into the homestretch. Favourite Kionia was in the third spot, but watched helplessly as Celeritas drew away and out of reach in the homestretch. Celeritas galloped on powerfully and left nothing to chance romping home a clear winner by over four lengths. Southern Lady improved to finish a far away second, while Her Legacy heaped more grief on the favourite to finish in the money.

Akshay capped the day with another splendid win astride Delphina (Stern Opinion - Scent) saddled by Srinivas Reddy. it was Country's Gift and Magic Street well in front with Delphina some distance away in the fifth spot.

Magic Street surged ahead to take charge with about 400 to go in the race. Delphina took the turn slightly wide but was warming up and picking up momentum. Magic Street had built up what looked a handy lead and with a furlong to go looked good enough to hang on. That was not to be as Delphina arrived with a sustained run to dash all hopes of Magic Street as she collared the favourite just a couple of strides from the winning post and raced away to victory in a sensational manner.  magic Street stood dazed while taking the runner up berth; Adamant and Rising ended a sedate third.

Amazing Response (Lord Shanakill - Zing Wing) took charge early in the straight, in fact just as Mr Baahubali had led them in, and then unleashed a scorching burst of speed to storm ahead and stretch clear of the rest in no time. There was no threat in sight and Amazing Response looked the winner long way from home. Apprentice jockey Abhay Singh had it easy all the way as the Sequeira trained gelding looked too good while outclassing his opponents with surprising ease. The way he blew away the top class opposition, Amazing Response may well add another win to his tally. That's My Class ran on to finish second ahead of Mr Baahubali.

Loch Stella (Mount Nelson - Passionate Girl) after a couple of suggestive runs, picked up her maiden victory on her eighth start. he took a while to go for the lead and once she did get past the front runners, it was all smooth sailing.

Lock Stella, ridden by apprentice jockey Bopanna, was well ahead coming into the homestretch and stretched out nicely to put the rest far behind. She was out of bounds as early as the final furlong mark and none could match her speed. Bombastic improved positions ending second a good two and half lengths behind. Smarty edged out Top Singer for the third spot.

Akshay Kumar was the star of the day riding five winners, while trainers RH Sequeira and M Srinivas Reddy saddled a double each.
