ACE ACE ACE COMES UP TRUMPS

By Mahendra Mallya | 17 Feb 2019 | HYDERABAD

Mr M Ramachandra Rao and trainer R H Sequeira leading Ace Ace Ace (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The M.C.E.M.E.Rolling Trophy

It was another good day for jockey Akshay Kumar who has been blazing in the saddle, particularly on his home turf here at Hyderabad. He sliced up half the card and this time had to share the honours with trainer RH Sequeira, who led-in four winners as well.

Ace Ace Ace (Win Legend - Refreshing) notched up his fourth career win in just seven starts and garnered rating points that will pitch in the higher class. He had it easy this time as well as he settled nicely close to the front bunch that was led into the straight by Once More. Ace Ace Ace picked up speed approaching the distance post and had no trouble stretching past his rivals one by one and then storm into the lead once inside the final furlong. From there on Ace Ace Ace showed that was clearly superior and the cramped odds offered on his was fully justified. He won easing up and even the fast finishing Meka's made little impact on the winner. Lockhart ended a fair third, Kamyar who ran fourth disappointed.

Akshay Kumar started the day on a winning note atop Gusty Look (Gusto - Radical Attraction) guiding the Sequeira trained colt to his maiden victory. Gusty Look went for it right from the start and once in the straight he had to counter a brief but strong challenge from Augenstern. The latter stuck by Gusty Look for a while before Gusty Look shook him off and darted ahead. He sustained the momentum well all through. There was a bit of anxiety though as favourite Swansea arrived with a late big charge, but Gusty look with Akshay Kumar kept the momentum going and managed to thwart the late challenger's attempt. Shivalik Valley made a late rally too, but could only managed to peg back Augenstern and earn some place money.

Sequeira and Akshay combined next with Balius (Air Support - Soviet Song) sailing away to score an encore with ease. Settling behind leader Willow Glen until into the straight, Balius took her time to get into top gear. Willow Glen wilted under pressure and soon faded out. Neither Nathu La nor Yogastha were making much headway as Balius left them behind and sped away. Royal Style improved past the distance post but just could not match up with Balius who won comfortably sparing two lengths to Royal Style. Nathu La saved the place money edging out Yogastha.

Sequeira and Akshay squared off the day with their fourth success this time with Miracle King (Kingda Ka - Michelle Marieci). Miracle King was right up in second matching strides with Et Voici until into the straight. He soon took charge and then galloped fluently to size up his opponents and gallop away at a good clip. George Cross made a good dash but only when Miracle King had skipped away. Miracle King won comfortably snapping up the Dr MAM Ramaswamy Memorial Cup Division II while George Cross ended up chasing him home. Marina Del Ray finished third just ahead of Euro Zone.

Vancouver (Mr Mellon - Watch) finished with a blaze that took away all and sundry by storm bagging the upper division of the race in an absolutely thrilling finish. There was a scramble for the finish approaching the distance post as Thundering, Symbol of Gold, Rutilant and Humaaghar going all out to out do one another. Humaaghar shaped well as he stretched his lead and with Rutilant not gaining on him Humaaghar was being hailed as the likely winner. It would have been so had not Vancouver produced that brilliance in the last 50 meters or so. Apprentice jockey RS Jodha had set Vancouver alight and the D Netto ward responded with a burst of brilliance that floored Humaaghar and the rest in a matter of split seconds. Vancouver couldnt have timed her run any better as she managed to pip Humaghaar right on the post. Rutilant and NRI Symbol finished on close to take the minor placing.

D Netto trained Havelock Cruise (Chinese Whisper - Yughanni) brought about his on his second start with a fine showing at the business end of the race. Havelock moved up soon on turning for home and got past early leaders Brooklyn Heights and Star Racer. He took a brief while to get going, but when he did, it was all over. Havelock Cruise, with jockey Kiran Naidu in the saddle,  shot ahead in the final 100 meters and posted a facile victory, the fight was on only for the minor placing. Red Snaper got the better of Red River and Star Racer in a three-way finish for the minor slots.
Semira (Varenar - Sun Absolute) saddled by Faiyaz Khan added to her solitary win after a gap of nearly 14 months. She had it very easy as she bid her time stalking early leader New Comer all the way into the homestretch. Once in, Semira progressed steadily to get alongside New Comer and then quickened well to draw away from New Comer. She kept stretching away and scored with authority by over four lengths. New Comer held on to the runner-up berth. Eau Claire ended up earning the place stakes.

Ajmal Birju (Multidimensional - Lei) finally achieved his maiden win on his tenth attempt. Ajmal Birju and Symbol of Star's were the prime fancies in the betting ring and it panned out the way the betting trends showed. Symbol of Star's had a good lead coming into the straight and even as they hit the distance post, Symbol of Star's was clearly in front. Ajmal Birju, ridden by apprentice Gopal Singh picked up speed in the final furlong and collared the leader soon after and sailed away to pick up his first victory in style. Symbol of Star's ran on to finish second well ahead of Mossad.

For the professionals, Trainer RH Sequeira and jockey Akshay Kumar dominated the race card with four winners each, Trainer D Netto chipped in with a double.
