BREEZEOFTHESOUTH SURPRISES LOCAL LOT

Trainer Manvendra Singh leading Breezeofthesouth (P Trevor Up), winner of The Midnight Cowboy Cup

A recent migrant from Hyderabad – Breezeofthesouth – sprung a surprise at RCTC on Wednesday when he got the better of the local lot with a degree of comfort in the race for The Midnight Cowboy Cup. Trevor Patel had the six year old by Dancing Forever out of Queen Of Normandy racing in mid-division for most part and took the shortest route when heads turned for home. Both Shivesh and Poet followed him home in that order. Trainer Manvendra Singh and Trevor had earlier hoisted the winning flag with Caiden. The latter moved with giant strides in the straight to peg back runaway Kefira close home. In the final race of the day, heavily backed filly Marbella had the misfortune of bursting her blood vessel and bleeding through both her nostrils. She ended up a tame fourth to Arakawah, a seven-year-old who sealed a treble for Manvendra.

The afternoon commenced with Harvinder Singh Bath’s Winner’s Delight (Oiseau De Feu – Come On Sania) winning the Robin Hood Handicap quite easily from a fast finishing Arion. On this occasion, the gelding was in his best behaviour at the starting stalls and Neeraj Rawal took full advantage of that. He had him racing fifth as Modification set a good pace and gradually improved his position to be a close third after the turning for home. He swept past the front-runners in a trice. The favourite Constance ended up a none too impressive fourth.

Despite an outside draw of 14, jockey Dhanu Singh Deora rode a competent race on the Aashay Doctor ward Onederboy to grab the Astounding Handicap run over a mile. Front-runners Princess Rumela and Fireburg failed to maintain their pace in the home stretch and both Onderboy (Ravel-Therry Girl) and Expensive Affair moved with telling strides in the straight to finish one-two.

Vijay Singh-trained Ruby Cube (Saamd – Su Doku) showed that his last impressive victory was no flash in the pan when he picked up the Tug Of War Plate without undue effort. The speedy colt won in similar fashion to his previous essay as Suraj Narredu brought him with a fluent run to collar stablemate Adhira at the distance post.

Had the connections of Kefira made the wise decision of declaring apprentice Rupal Singh in her previous run which was 100m less and prior to the 2kg penalty she incurred, then she would have probably finished ahead of Dakshesh. But alas, it was not to be. She continues to play bridesmaid due to poor placement. Of course, some stables are as happy with the stake money earned from placing, as leading in a winner. It is after all their property and their wish. Trevor had to work hard on Caiden (Net Whizz-Kentucky Queen) to get the better of runaway Kefira at the wire.

The Ming Dynasty Handicap saw Vikash Jaiswal-trained Capricious (Gusto-Vivacity) notch up an encore with PS Chouhan in the saddle. He defied the 3.5kg penalty quite easily as Multivalue was slow off the blocks. Tweedle Dee with apprentice Paswan doing duty moved up impressively to be runner-up. The curtain came down with aged Arakawah (Rebuttal-Lambency) getting the better of Sheer Force close home.
