Trainer Manvendra Singh leading Breezeofthesouth (D S Deora Up), winner of The Mysore Race Club Cup

After winning the Midnight Cowboy Cup ten days ago, Manvendra Singh-trained Breezeofthesouth continued his good work by bagging The Mysore Race Club Cup at RCTC on Saturday despite the 6kg penalty that he incurred. It was to jockey DS Deora’s credit that he achieved a hard-fought victory over course favourite Southpaw in the very last stride.  Deora thus notched up a brace, having won earlier atop Aashay Doctor-trained Murakami in the race for the Own Opinion Plate.   Trainer Bharath Singh and his trusted saddle artist Dashrath Singh combined to fetch a brace with Lumenac and Oak Brook. Both runners won fairly comfortably. Leading jockey Suraj Narredu drew a blank on the day.

The afternoon commenced with Jams Mc Keown’s top-weight filly Fabiola (Whatsthescript-Understood) putting up a fab show for her connections in the seven furlong race for The Predator Handicap. Jockey Hindu Singh displayed a quick presence of mind to switch his mount to the inside as he saw Shivayy drifting under the stick. That gave him the edge he needed and Fabiola returned a worthy winner. Having seen the winning post, it may be said that that there are more races in store for the filly.

The Bharath-Dashrath combo opened their account with Lumenac (Tazahum-Longoria) in the race for The Red Chieftan Handicap.Dashrath unhurriedly improved his mount’s position from sixth to a good second outside front-running Aquitania at the top of the straight. Thereafter, it was smooth sailing for rider and horse.  Dashrath and Bharath completed their double with Oakbrook (Net Whizz-Oakdale) who won the seven-furlong race for The Star Of Italy Handicap. Both Sanvi and Oakbrook made their move in the straight after Multivalue had taken charge. Oakbrook switched to the middle of the track and moved with giant strides to put an end to the aspirations of Multivalue. Sanvi lost some ground by making her bid on the wide outside.

The youngsters race for the Own Opinion Plate saw Aashay Doctor-trained Murakami (Declaration Of War – Fame Star) upset her rivals in her maiden start. The trainer needs to be complimented for the thorough preparation he pumped into the colt. DS Deeora’s ability to pile on the pressure on his mount in the closing stages of the race saw him winning the first of his two races by edging out Shivalik Sight at the wire.

The sprint for the Amberetta Handicap saw eight-year-old Praise Her Gaze (Express Wish-Foot Tapper) put on her galloping shoes with apprentice Tejeshwar in the saddle. The Manvendra Singh ward made every post a winning one with the second and third berths going to outsiders as well. The race was a clean sweep for the satchel bearers as the three fancied runners led by Speed Force failed to match strides with the front-runner. The curtain came down with local favourite Christopher Alford pulling off his eighth victory of the season while astride Bath-trained Fiorelle (Sedgefield-Alsaabeqa) who got the better of public choice Arjuna close home.
