Mr Jairam G Kimmane & trainer Prasanna Kumar leading Areca Legend (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Stewards Cup

The on-money favourite Areca Legend back after his impressive victory in his earlier essay provided an encore edging out the 10 to one shot Haedi's Folly in a thriller in the Stewards Cup, the plum event run over a sprint on Saturday.

The winner from trainer Prasanna Kumar's yard, who is enjoying a fine summer run, tracked the leader Miniver Rose for most part of the trip before Suraj Narredu setalight the public choice at the distance post. The in-form Prasanna ward readily stormed ahead before gallantly holding onto the advantage from Haedi's Folly who was seen finishing on fastest at end. In line for a hat-trick, Spiritous, stablemate of the winner gained the third place ahead of Regal Music.

The day started with a big upset, the money-back favourite Silent Guardian from trainer Neil Darashah's yard finishing a poor third behind the winner Ideological from trainer Prasanna Kumar's yard and Legendary Princess. On the strength of his satisfactory essay in Mumbai against some top horses, Silent Guardian was considered a cinch in the Cape Dance Plate run over 1100M dash taking into account that the Neil ward was up against mediocre horses, but the hot favourite at no stage of the race posed a threat to Ideological piloted by Chetankalay who stormed through to win in emphatic fashion.

In the next event, String Of Pearls, Scarlet Princess and Smile Of Joy from trainer Dominic's yard topped the betting board and to the delight of the Dominic camp, Smile Of Joy, who had failed to display her true potential in her last start produced a heartwarming effort in the hands of Pradeep Chouhan to floor her rivals winning by more than 10 lengths. Scarlet Pruincess gained the runner up berth ahead of Aleef while String Of Pearls, who had impressed most in her last essay going down fighting to Winx produced a below par performance and eventually finished in the ruck.

Second behind Mega Ikon in his last essay, the Padmanabhan schooled Knight Templar was fancied most in the Paddiwick Plate run over a mile. The favourite who appeared to have improved most after his last effort tracked the leader Sir Supremo for most part of the trip before producing a sparkling gallop in the hands of leading pro Sandesh at the distance post to emerge a smart winner. Second in demand at the betting ring, Tenno Sho finished a tame third.

In the principal added attraction, the V Venugopal Naidu Memorial Trophy, the topweighted Into The Groove from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard was backed to the exclusion of her seven rivals. The on-money favourite piloted by Trevor Patel in her attempt to make every post a winning one met a tartar in Snowdon who unleashed a strong gallop in the final furlong to peg back the top fancy. Second favourite Agni after tracking the public choice till the distance post failed to quicken and all the Hyderabad challenger could do was finish third ahead of another Hyderabad hopeful Blazer.

In a pulse-pounding finish, the favourite Cosmos from Darius Byramji's yard brilliantly piloted by Zervan, who had earlier booted home Snowdon edged out lesser fancied Foi Et Amour and the strongly favoured Velocidad in a humdinger. After Sandesh astride the Padmanabhan-trained Foi Et Amour stole a march at the top of the straight, Zervan in determined fashion got busy on Cosmos while Chouhan joined the fray bringing Velocidad into contention. The three were locked in a battle royale in the final furlong before Cosmos to the delight of the followers of form nosed out Foi Et Amour.

In the concluding event, the Nithyanand schooled Adventurer who was sweetly fancied by the right connections proved too good cruising home in resplendent style. Arshad Alam displayed good poise while partnering the winner, packing punch in the final furlong to breeze past the heavily backed Musterion from Arvind Ganapathy's yard and pegging back the belated effort of Chantelle at end.
