By Ikram Khan | 29 Jun 2019 | BANGALORE

Trainer J E Mckeown leading Adjudicate (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Chief Justice's Cup (Gr.3)

Despite the fact that she had beaten Desert God in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup and the fact that her effort in the mock race was better than the essay of Desert God in another mock race, it was Desert God, who was backed strongly to score in the Chief Justice's Cup, most knowledgeable and the pundits in the game contending that the 3.5 kilos benefit that Desert God enjoyed in this event would prove decisive.  Adjudicate from James McKeown's yard proved all of them wrong including the bookies who surprisingly offered the `Queen'

filly at (3/1) while money was pouring in on Desert God at (90/100). After tracking Desert God for most part of the nine furlongs trip as the nohoper Roberta set a scorching pace, Suraj astride Adjudicate moved up strongly negotiating the final curve and easily circled the field before assuming command and powering through to establish that this darling of the Kolkata racing buffs is the best horse at this campus. Salazaar piloted by Pradeep Chouhan did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Desert God, who appeared rusty. The two Pesi Shroff challengers, Sacred Roman and Roberta performed below par and as a result the Hyderabad hopeful Reunion took the fourth spot.

In what was a very competitive and an open affair, the Arjun Manglorkar schooled Fair Warning edged out long shot Tarini in a close finish to win the J B Mallaradhya Memorial Trophy run over a sprint. The talented Antony Raj guiding the fortunes of Fair Warning in the whipless race setalight the winner in the final furlong and Fair Warning readily responding to the call produced a fine gallop to gain the day in a close finish. Turf Magic from Ganapathy's yard finished third ahead of Torsoro while the favourite Good Time Indeed finished in the ruck.

In the opening event, the Sir M Visvesvaraya Memorial Trophy, the Neil Darashah schooled Peluche edged out Aeisir in a close finish. The winner who opened joint favourite with Sakura had no takers and the price on the Neil ward drifted out to (6/1) leaving Sakura to enjoy the top billing. but all that Sakura could do was finish third behind Aeisir after Trevor powered Peluche to score in a thriller.

A planned gamble on Majestic Rajkumari from Praveen Jesu's yard flopped badly in the Amazing Grace Plate run over 1100M dash. Second in demand at the betting ring, Songkran from Dominic's yard after tracking the leader All By Myself shot through in the final furlong to score in emphatic fashion. Hunters Moon finished a creditable third ahead of Savisa.

On the strength of his impressive effort, second behind Kirkwood in his last essay, Northern Alliance was backed to the exclusion of his 11 rivals in the lower division of the Fantabulous King Plate and the vastly improved Neil Devaney ward provided jockey Zervan an

arm-chair ride to success, donkey-licking the opposition to win by a yawning gap of more than seven lengths. On The Trot held on to gain the runner-up berth ahead of British Empress. Northern Alliance is in top form and is set to provide an encore.

The Mumbai hopeful Victorious Sermon from Vishal Gaikwad's yard was the overwhelming favourite in the upper division of the event. Star And Garter too had her fair share of supporters on the strength of her second behind Well Connected who went on to win the first classic of the season, the Fillies Championship Stakes. While the favourite managed to get to the finish first to the delight of the followers of form pegging back the belated effort of Southern Ruler, Star And Garter after being favourably placed at the top of the straight flopped badly and failed to make the frame.

The public rage Tokyo Rose from Dheeraj's yard strongly piloted by Suraj Narredu justified favouritism in the Alekona Plate edging out rankoutsider Tiger Returns. Prince Azeem from M R Singh's stable did well to save money in place while Elite Agent after making the early running lacked the gas in the tank to quicken and make a race of it, finally ending up last in the dozen-horse field.

The concluding event, the Young Rajput Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs saw Duxton from Lokanath Gowda's yard and Another Rainbow from the stables of Md Khan garner the maximum support. The former piloted in copybook fashion by Arshad Alam reigned supreme to the delight of the Mohd camp. Three Wishes was another from Ganapathy's yard who finished second ahead of Duxton.
