Trainer B Suresh leading Star Baron (A Imran Khan Up), winner of The Bangalore City Sprint Championship Gold Cup (Gr.3)

The Chennai challenger Star Baron from trainer B Suresh's yard shocked the followers of form winning the Bangalore City Sprint Championship Gold Cup in resplendent style at the summer races on Thursday. The 25 to one shot piloted by Imran Khan tracked the favourite Accolade all through the sprint trip as Southpaw in the hands of Srinath hit the front and showed the way to the seven contestants. Accolade streaked ahead at the distance post before Imran reminded Star Baron of the task ahead and the winner quickly stormed up to put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Lady Legend finished second ahead of Accolade

The principal added attraction, the Karnataka Sub-Area Cup was claimed by the second in demand at the betting ring Shesmyscript from trainer Irfan Ghatala's yard. The winner piloted by leading pro Trevor Patel produced a sprakling gallop in the final furlong to overhaul the lesser fancied Into The Groove to romp home a deserving winner. Merlot finished a game third while the top fancy Snowdon from trainer Padmanabhan's yard after being prominently placed at the top of the straight flopped badly and failed to even make the frame.

The favourite Striking Grey from Lokanath Gowda's yard confidently piloted by Darshan came up tops in the Lt. Col. Gaunt Memorial Trophy run over a mile. The winner who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring was strongly tipped to score after his suggestive effort in his last essay. Darshan settled the grey in the six position for most part of the trip before he packed punch to help the public choice shoot through an opening on the rails to score from Super Smart. The topweighted Dr.Logan finished a game third while Aaron The Baron completed the frame.

The consistent Donna Bella from trainer Irfan Ghatala's yard garnered the maximum support in the August Plate run over 1100M dash. The Parvati-trained Will To Win on the strength of her impressive second on her debut too had fair share of her followers while the Prasanna camp fancied Knotty Oak to upset the apple cart of the top two fancied contestants. But this did not happen, the public choice Donna Bella piloted by Suraj Narredu making every post a winning one without being unduly extended. Sandarina finished second ahead of Knotty Oak while Will To Win after being in striking position at the top of the straight packed up and eventually finished in the ruck.

After Barog from trainer Sharath Kumar's yard opted out of the lower division of the Commanche Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs, Purity from Arjun Manglorkar's yard who is yet to shed her maiden status was the overwhelming even-money favourite. Most railbirds were of the view that this was the best chance for Purity to enter the winners' circle but she flattered to decieve yet again going down and finishing third in a close finish. The lesser fancied Winx from Imtiaz Sait's yard powerfully piloted by T S Jodha edged out Proudwish in a thrilling finish.

Backed to the exclusion of his nine rivals, Bernardini withdrawn at the starting gates, Kerazano from the stables of Padmanabhan showed a clean pair of heels, hitting the front and running away with the Kunigal Stud Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Sandesh astride the winner needed to only guide the winner who proved too good cantering home with his pilot not really needing to move a muscle. Venus Bay who had failed to make an impression in her last three starts surprised most finishing second ahead of Starman while Colonel Harty followed Star Man home.

The final event, the upper division of the Commanche Plate produced a shock result, the 15 to one shot Good Word from the stables of Warren Singh ridden by apprentice jockey Shamaz Shareef edging out another lesser fancied contestant Savisa. Above The Rest from Lokanath Gowda's yard and First Step from the stables of John were fancied most in this event, but to the surprise of most railbirds the top two failed in their mission to score, Above The Rest failing to even save money in place.
