By Mahendra Mallya | 05 Aug 2019 | HYDERABAD

Trainer D Netto leading Agni (S Zervan Up), winner of The K Mahipathi Rao Memorial Golconda Juvenile Million (Gr.3)

D Netto trained Agni (Burden of Proof – Auxiliary) bred at the Sans Craintes Stud, displayed his current good form and followed up his last week’s winning show with another fine effort to win the K Mahapati Rao Memorial Golconda Juvenile Million (Gr3), the feature event of the day.

Tetra Rama, the public rage, set off at a good clip to lead the field and there was Agni chasing the favourite keeping within reach in second. Monte General, Sitara and Blazer followed close behind.

The race came to a boil early in the straight as Zervan urged Agni and drew level with Tetra Rama. The duo fought hard the next few strides and Agni pushed ahead to take charge. Agni moved inward soon on passing Tetra Rama cut across in the process. It looked like Agni had it covered and would sail away to win with ease, however, Tetra Rama fought back exceedingly well to gain on Agni at a fast rate. Just when it looked like Tetra Rama would shock Agni and snatch the advantage back, the winning post arrived and bailed Agni out. Agni managed to hold on by a head!

Jockey Akshay Kumar, the rider of Tetra Rama immediately lodged an objection as he felt that Agni had crossed his too close and the fact that Tetra Rama reran to reduce the verdict in the manner he did, would matter as well. However, after due diligence, the stewards overruled the objection and Agni kept the race. Tetra Rama fought back bravely and was gallant in his first career defeat. Agni deserved to win for the bold manner in which he tackled the overwhelming favourite.

Platts Tour (Tazahum – Karisini) trained by Laxman Singh, lined up her fourth successive victory maintain a clean slate of four wins in four starts. This one too was not too much of hard work as Platts Tour swung into action soon on turning for home and sailed past Yours Forever effortlessly. Once in the lead, Platts Tour continued on cruise mode right through piling up more than three lengths margin when passing the winning post without being extended. Yours Forever held on to finish second warding off the late bid from Ashwa Yashobali.

The day started on a thrilling note with Man Apart just scraping home after seeming to have sewed up the race comfortably, just a couple of strides earlier. Man Part (Varenar – Mandara) saddled by Srinivas Reddy, was well clear past the distance post. There was no threat in sight as a bunch f horses seemed to be fight on in vain. Holy Healer lit up suddenly and picked up speed. Once he got going, Holy Healer came with a terrific burst, literally flying in the last fifty and covered considerable ground in split seconds only to find his brilliance being stone-walled. The handy lead that jockey Trevor had cushioned Man Apart with, came in very handy and Man Apart saved the day for his connections by a whisker. Holy Healer, ridden by apprentice Jitendra Singh, got agonisingly close and a great effort was reduced to taking the runner-up berth what should have been a winning cause. Handsome Duo improved to finish a satisfying third.

Waseem Ahmed trained Your Grace (Western Aristocrat – River Cree) put in a sustained run in the hands of apprentice jockey Vikrant to pip the favourite Magic Street on the final stride. Magic Street had done everything right until then. He sailed into the lead early in the straight and galloped ahead and was shaping well to go all the way. He however veered out under pressure and with Your Grace lurking close behind, that proved fatal for the favourite. Jockey Vikrant saw his chance and rode out with confidently, believing that he could nail Magic Street on the post. He did just that and pulled off a sensational victory timing his run to perfection. Magic Street squandered away his grip on the race going down by a head. Tiger of the Seas improved to finish in the money.

British Empress (Win Legend – Deputy Empress) saddled by Sequeira, scored a facile victory, beating on-money favourite Francis Bacon and the rest with ease. Jockey Akshay Kumar held nothing back as they entered the straight and encountered no resistance from the favourite as he sailed past to compile a handsome lead soon after. British Empress came in all alone in front dominating the final furlong and win easing up. Artistryy edged out Monte Rei to claim the runner up berth.

Delphina (Stern Opinion – Scent) was another one to score an easy victory. The trainer Srinivas Reddy’s charge was right behind leader Marvel Princess coming into the straight. Jockey P Trevor urged the filly to get past Southern State and Marvel Princess  and a couple of cracks did the trick. Delphina, fresh from her recent victory galloped away majestically in the final furlong to score an encore with a bigger margin of over four lengths, justifying the strong support she received in the betting ring. Marvel Princess found one better this time, but ran well within herself to raise hope for a better result next time out. Vega Cassandra ran on to take the third spot.

Waseem Ahmed trained Honest Hunter (Gaswar – Kilspindie) started her season on a positive note with a rock solid victory. Always up in front along with a couple of rivals on either side, Honest Hunter surged into the lead soon on turning for home and galloped on relentlessly. Max tried hard to get past and was level approaching the distance post, but could not match up. Tokyo Jam struggled all the way without making any impact. Sublime came in with a late charge, but that too had little effect as Honest Hunter, with BR Kumar in the saddle, kicked on gamely to win by a length from Sublime. Tokyo Jam edged out Max for the third spot.

Jockey BR Kumar scored again in the very next race astride trainer Kassam’s Silver Dollar (Rebuttal – Ridawana). Sent out at a lucrative 9/2 Silver Dollar was out early and settled in second behind Cowboy’s Delight all the way into the homestretch.

Silver Dollar soon took charge and marched on ahead making it more difficult for his rivals. Silver Dollar accelerated nicely to draw away in the final furlong and notch up a huge win with a ig margin of sex lengths. Cowboy’s Delight did well to stay put and keep the runner-up berth. Delmonico ran on to finish in the money ahead of Royal Dancer.

For the professionals, trainers M Srinivas Reddy and Waseem Ahmed and jockeys P Trevor and BR Kumar scored a double each.
