Debutante Sultan Suleiman (Arazan - Saffron Dancer, Poonawalla Stud) blazed away in his opening campaign showing commendable ability and temperament to go with it while scoring a pleasing victory to claim the Southern Command Trophy. For a first timer, he settled nicely in the fourth spot with jockey A Sandesh keeping him within reach of Memorable Eyes out in front. Cliffs of Capri and Revelator were galloping close behind the leader with the rest not too far behind. 

Memorable Eyes led them into the straight but soon had Sultan Suleiman snatch away the lead. The Altaf Hussain ward accelerated fluently and within strides bounded away out of reach of his opponents. Sultan Suleiman strode out strongly and looked the winner the moment he took charge well before the distance post. He drew away in the final furlong to post an impressive victory by a healthy margin. Memorable Eyes ran on to finish second ahead of Revelator. Cliffs of Capri failed to capitalize on a good start and ended a tame fourth. 

Aubrun (Champs Elysees - Atwirl, Nanoli Stud) bounced back to winning ways with a sublime start to finish display. The five year old mare, trained by Vishal Gaikwad, took off at a good pace and looked all grace as she entered the straight with a handy lead. 

Once in the homestretch, Auburn with jockey Zervan in the saddle, increased the momentum and skipped ahead leaving Bronx to chase her down. Bronx tried hard, but all he could do was cut down the margin to just about a length. Having to give a good chunk of weight to Bronx, Aubrun certainly did a good job. Bronx can only do well after this run and can strike early. Kingsman was languishing in the rear for the most part of the race and improved in the straight to finish a tame third. 

The Field Marshal Sam Maneckshaw Memorial Trophy saw a keen battle spur up in the final furlong when Dazzling Star and Between the Waters got going at full steam racing to the wire. 

Impala showed good early speed and hit the front with Wild Flower and Namaqua  close behind, Tenerife hang around for a while then faded away. Namaqua never looked settled and comfortable and he went wide at the turn thus never looked in contention despite being in the front bunch. 

While Wild Fire wilted soon on turning for home, Impala had a handy lead approaching the distance post. Dazzling Star then quickened well to accost Impala, but soon had Between The Waters (Surfrider - Althing, Ruia Stud) challenging her. This pair fought out the final 100 meters or so and dashed past the wire almost together. Between the Waters got it right by a whisker and jockey CS Jodha played a big hand in the closely fought victory. 

Long shot Cezanne (Cockney Rebel - Blue Missy, Capricorn Stud) struck when least expected to rise. Cezanne showed renewed zest to emerge victorious over a scurry - a distance where an eight year old seemingly has no business to win. The AM Jadhav trainee shot into the lead soon on entering the straight leaving early leader Skysurfer behind and build up a handy lead. Lord Commander switched lanes and made a desperate bid but the old timer proved too fast to catch. Cezanne won by three and half lengths clocking a nippy 58:19 to claim the Col Kaikhushroo Maneckji Bharucha Memorial Trophy. Lord Commander finished second well ahead of Gloriana, who nosed out Avantika for the place stakes. 

Dallas Todywalla trained Western Front (Strong Suit - Koh Samui, Manjri Stud) scored a facile victory in the opening race of the day. Making rapid progress around the turn, Western Front stormed into the lead soon on turning for home. Jockey P Trevor rode out confidently and Western Front responded with a fluent gallop and looked majestic in his style of winning. Gdansk was second all the way while fancied Benevolence ran below par. 

Trevor later played a hand in urging Godsword (Diffident - Callista, Yeravada Stud) to a log due victory. He capitalized on a good start and led well in the straight. Godsword had a handy cushion of a useful lead and all he had to do was keep the momentum going. Trevor rode out hard and managed to quell the budding challenge as Ame finished on fast run Godsword close. Maestro did well to finish in the money. 

For the professionals, trainer Altaf Hussain saddled a double, while jockeys P Trevor and A Sandesh scored a double as well.
