AQUITANIA SHOWS A CLEAN PAIR OF HEELS

Trainer H S Bath leading Demonstrate (C Alford Up), winner of The Aerona Cup

Trainer Javed Khan was at his best on Tuesday as he registered a lucrative treble comprising Rush For Gold, Stelvio Pass and Coup de Grace. The trio of winners proved to be a shot in the arm for Javed and took his tally for the season to eleven, placing him in second spot behind runaway leader Vijay Singh. It was a well-deserved show by the conscientious and hard-working trainer who, like a few other trainers has the ability to assess the strength of the opposition. That is very important when planning a gamble.

Daniel David-trained Aquitania (Admiralofthefleet-Rhapsody In Blue), available at 6/1, made every post of the 1200m race for the Fly Like The Wind Handicap a winning one. Jockey Akshay Kumar did the honours. The 10/1 shot Reincarnation made a belated bid for victory after being chopped at the start by Fortune Express. Apprentice Sujit Paswan did well to keep his mount from running into the heels of Fortune Express. The six-year-old finished a fair second. The three fancied runners – Aashna, Danciing Prince and Arashi – all finished in the ruck.

The Aerona Cup saw HS Bath-trained Demonstrate (Sedgefield-Dixie Dahlin) produce an encore in the hands of the much experienced Christopher Alford who did rather well to squeeze himself out of a tight corner as Dil Mange More drifted out alarmingly, taking Demonstrate with her. The filly Fabiola tried to make a rails run but was no match for the winner. She ended up fourth.

The afternoon commenced with trainer Vijay Singh pulling off a fabulous victory with Devotion (Top Class-Temple Bells) in The Bountiful Talent Handicap. The filly was negotiating a mile and quarter trip for the first time and she performed admirably in the hands of Hindu Singh. The champion trainer had done his homework well as the dam Temple Bells was very comfortable over 1800m. Devotion made every post a winning one and left the others gasping for breath. The filly had placed in her last two outings, so it was not a case of in-and-out racing. The fact that she was available at 6/1, means punters neglected her as they speculated that she wouldn’t stay the trip. Among the form-workers who overlooked the positive pointers was yours truly.

Javed’s first winner was Rush For Gold (Chevalier-Alhuda) in the Espoir Plate. Imran Chisty took no chances and made every post a winning one. Both Incendio and Ruby Cube showed plenty of vigour while occupying the minor berths. They will  be worth following in the near future.

Javed’s next winner was Stelvio Pass (China Visit-Analeah), who made every post of the Golden Praise Handicap a winning one with apprentice Sujit Kumar Paswan extending his lead in the race for the ‘best apprentice’ award.  Javed completed his treble with Coup De Grace (Arazan-Nijinsky Bullet) who came with a flourish in the final furlong to sail past the front runners. Jockey CS Jodha was the man in the saddle.
DEORA FINED : Jockey Dhanu Singh Deora (astride Izzy) was fined Rs 10,000/- for causing severe interference to Tenno Sho and Shivalik Sight in the Calcutta Monsoon Derby run on Sunday.
