KNOTTY ASH WINS DASARA SPRINT IN THRILLER

By Ikram Khan | 11 Oct 2019 | MYSORE

Trainer Prasanna Kumar leading (S John Up), winner of The Mysore Bookmakers Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.3)

After recording a good double on Thursday, leading pro S John was at his best recording a hat-trick, including booting home Knotty Ash in a thriller in the Dasara Sprint Championship, the plum event on Friday.

John opened his account through the Kamath schooled Willow Glen in the lower division of the Chirapunji Plate run over a sprint. The winner strongly fancied by the insiders and the right connections produced his best to the delight of his supporters, romping home in convincing fashion. The fact that the supporters of Willow Glen were not scared by the presence of the in-form Ireland who was in line for a hat-trick was indication enough for the smart punters to understand that Kamath had an ace up his sleeve and it proved to be an ace of Spades. Ireland could only manage to fill the frame while the public choice cruised home ahead of Humming Bird and the advantageously placed in at the scales My Queen.

Astride on the second in demand at the betting ring and last start winner Brave Lady from trainer Azhar Ali's yard who has led in a fair share of winners this season, John played a waiting game, biding his time before launching the final assault to a nicety.in the Urs Kar Trophy run over a mile  Starry Wind, who garnered the maximum support after raising hopes at the top of the straight flopped badly and eventually finished in the ruck. Reczai did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Aaron The Baron who raced in patches while Wild Wild Angels took the fourth spot.

In line for a hat-trick on the favourite Knotty Ash from trainer Prasanna Kumar's yard, John was at his best, packing punch and relentlessly driving the public choice to gain the verdict in the final stride from the Chennai challenger Star Baron from trainer Suresh's yard.  Star Baron and Areca Legend, stablemate of Knotty Ash were disputing the issue in the final furlong and just when it looked like Star Baron would gain the day, John brought Knotty Ash into contention and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat much to the relief of most big bettors who had invested big on the Prasanna ward to come up trumps in the Dasara Sprint.

The Rakesh-trained Kaguya Himei and San Vinto from Kamath's yard garnered the maximum support in the Autumn Blue Plate run over a mile. The topweighted Anteros did have his fair share of followers too and the stablemate of kaguya Himei, Eudora was also strongly fancied in place. The 1-2 finish delighted Rakesh most, Kaguya Himei galloping home untroubled ahead of Eudora while San Vinto finished third ahead of the topweighted Anteros.

In the concluding event, the upper division of the Chirapunji Plate run over a sprint, Eddie The Eagle started the favourite before money came pouring in on the Shravanan -trained All In who had recorded a shock win in his last essay. The well backed favourite again produced a winning effort to snuff out the start to finish effort of Eddie The Eagle in the final furlong. Kir Royale finished a creditable third ahead of Be Bold while the other fancied contestant Airvelocity was never in the hunt.
The 20 to one shot Alvarez from Samar Singh's yard dropped the biggest bombshell in the opening event, the Lokapavani Plate  beating Dolphin while the much fancied Bold Runner surprisingly made no impression. Bold Runner it appears is on a downward slide and it will do a world of good to ignore this Dheeraj ward in the weeks ahead.

Shravanan who proudly led in All In in the concluding event, earlier combined effectively with Rajesh Kumar to lead in the favourite Oceana in the Triveni Plate run over 1100M dash. Vroom Vroom gained the runner-up spot ahead of Star Lagoon while Surprise package only managed to fill the frame.
