By Ikram Khan | 13 Dec 2019 | BANGALORE

Trainer S Padmanabhan leading Snowdon (David Allan Up), winner of The Vidhana Soudha Trophy

Trainer Prasanna Kumar warmed up nicely for the 2000  Guineas recording a double on the eve of the second classic on Friday the 13th. The leading trainer first led in Indian Empress winner of the B A R I Trophy run over a sprint before striking it rich on Perfect Rendition in the concluding event.

In the BARI Trophy the Prithviraj schooled Slice Of Heaven on the strength of his facile victory in his last effort in summer garnered the maximum support. The favourite, who was listed to race on the horrific opening day looked good in the paddock and this led to most big bettors increasing their unit of betting. The Prithviraj ward after calling the shots till the dozen negotiated the final curve blew the fuse on all his supporters, dropping back and eventually finishing in the ruck. Second in demand at the betting ring, Indian Empress in the hands of Jagadeesh reigned supreme ahead of Schafenburg while the topweighted Kimera took the third spot.

In the concluding event, the upper division of the Brahmagiiri Stakes, Perfect Rendition piloted by Imran Chisty was fancied most by the insiders and the right connections and the winner to the delight of his supporters romped home a convincing winner. The topweighted Genuine Star from Satish Narredu's yard, Silwer Swift from the stables of Dominic were the two others in the field of 11 runners who were fancied most and the top three dominated the finish. While Perfect Rendition gained the day, Silver Swift finished second ahead of Genuine Star and Akasi made the frame.

Leading pro S John shared the professional honours with Prasanna recording a double. John won the opening event astride Custom Cut . Trevor Patel was listed to partner the public choice but since he failed to make it, John made most of the opportunity. Barog who had finished third in his last essay went one better gaining the runner-up berth ahead of She's Stylish while Turf Prospector filled the frame.

John next scored on the Arjun Manglorkar-trained Simone who provided an encore, winning the upper division of the Chintamani Stakes run over 1100M dash. The winner after jumping out well from the gates made every post a winning one. The well supported Charmaine from Nithyanand's yard tracked Simone for most part of the trip before running out of gas at the top of the straight and failing to even make the board. Industrialist surprised most finishing second ahead of Simply Magical while Dallas came home fourth.

The on-money favourite Snowdon proved too good in the plum event, the Vidhana Soudha Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. David Allan astride the winner tracked the three front runners, Nanhipari, Blue Moon and Star Cracker before he reminded Snowdon of the task ahead at the top of the straight and the winner without unduly extending himself stormed up to put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Blue Moon finished second ahead of Cerise Noir who appears to have regained form and fitness while Peluche  will do a lot better after this run under his belt.

Azhar Ali schooled She's Innocent dropped the biggest bombshell in the seven-event card winning the lower division of the Brahmagiri Stakes. The 50 to one long shot spoilt Anthony Raj and Prasanna's party edging out the strongly faniced Desert Combat. The winner appears to have hit top form and it will pay to folloiw this shock winner when saddled next.

The Rajesh Narredu-trained Arrogance piloted in copybook fashion by apprentice Shamaz Shareef won the lower division of the Chintamani Stakes in convincing fashion from Queen Isabella and Perfect King. In this event Azhar Ali's Princess Pride was tipped strongly by the stable connections but the `Princess' was never in the hunt.
