ANGELINO WINS KABINI CUP

By Ikram Khan | 20 Dec 2019 | BANGALORE

Angelino (P Trevor Up), winner of The Kabini Cup

After punters enjoyed the better of exchanges on Thursday, Friday saw the followers of form take a hit in the first three races before they recouped their losses through the public choice Angelino from Sulaiman Attaollahi’s yard, winner of the plum event, the Kabini Cup and the Neil Darashah-trained Here And Now coming up tops in the Garden City Trophy run over a distance of 2000 metres.

On the strength of his satisfactory effort in his last start and the fact that he had benefitted from that run under his belt, Angelino was strongly fancied to score in the plum event and after Trevor Patel pushed him to the front early on in the event the Sulaiman ward never let the initiative slip though it must be mentioned that Trevor needed to drive his mount flat out to peg back stablemate Into The Groove at end. Ashwa Raftar caught the eye while finishing third ahead of Set To Win.

Imran Khan produced a neat effort on the top weighted Here And Now in the Garden City Cup. The leading pro was in no pressure while gracing the wrong end of the field for most part of the journey. The moment Imran reminded Here And Now of his task ahead the Neil ward produced a sparkling gallop to settle the issue. Streaming Gold expectedly gained the runner-up berth ahead of Grey Channel while Set To Win made the board.

The fact that Royal Resolution won his last start in the hands of N Rajesh in impressive fashion and now that the connections chose David Allan to guide his fortunes on Friday in the upper division of the Bellary Plate, the railbirds also chose to go with the Padmanabhan ward, but it really didn’t work out the way the punters desired, the public choice failing to display his true potential after a fall in the race, apprentice jockey J H Arul dislodged from Triggar, effecting the progress of Royal Resolution and Sharp Response in the event. The eight to one shot Alberetta won the race in the hands of R Vaibhav, edging out Birchwood who in his attempt to make every post a winning one lost out at end. Wings Of Desire saved place money edging out Optimistic Approach by the shortest of margins. Optimistic Approach was the one who caught the eye and it will pay to follow this Prithviraj ward in the weeks ahead.

Earlier it was the Prithviraj-trained Candlelightqueen who won the opening event in the hands of John. The Irfan Ghatala schooled Unifier was fancied again by the punters but this Irfan ward who needlessly is rated high by a few track reporters failed to make the board. Gin Daisy finished second ahead of Prince Azeem while Aerospeed came home fourth.
Another outsider Paradiso reigned supreme in the next event, the Chamundi Hills Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner piloted by Arshad Alam made very post a winning one pegging back the belated effort of Amazing Angel who impressed most finishing second ahead of Limato.

Another Irfan Ghatala favourite who bit the dust not even making the frame was Varcasva. Chouhan astride the Irfan ward it must be mentioned met interference all the way up the straight, the riderless Capstone interfering with his progress till the straight. Panama from Nithyanand’s yard piloted  by Imran Chisty emerged a shock winner ahead of Radiant Treasure while Lucky Isabella who was also one of the fancied contestants only managed to save place money.
