By Ikram Khan | 04 Jan 2020 | BANGALORE

Mr Tegbir Brar & trainer S S Attaollahi leading Anjeze (David Egan Up), winner of The Bangalore Oaks (Gr.2)

The winner of the 1000 Guineas, Anjeze from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard brilliantly piloted by young Irish pro David Egan recorded a classic double, emerging the best of her age and sex, winning the Bangalore Oaks in resplendent style on Friday. David who encountered traffic problems early on in the energy-sapping 2400M trip improved slowly yet surely down the backstretch and gained a comfortable position negotiating the final curve. Srinath astride Speedster from Warren Singh's yard who called the shots from the word go stepped up the pace and established a five-length break entering the straight. The Mumbai challenger Rhapsody piloted by Leigh Roche and Anjeze stormed up at the distance post and it was Anjeze who powered through to score from Speedster. Rhapsody finished a tame third ahead of Queen Regnant. The winner next is likely to compete in the blue riband of the season, the winter Derby on Republic Day and the `Queen' in the mega event will be up against the best horse in the campus War Hammer on D-day.

A facile last start winner, Snowdon who had provided Scottish pro David Allan an arm-chair ride to success was fancied most in the New Year Cup, the plum event run over a distance of seven furlongs. The Padmanabhan ward  produced another scintillating performance to the delight of his supporters, pegging back the start to finish effort aimed by Knotty Ash in the final furlong. Shesmyscript finished on well at end to take the third spot ahead of Aeolus who too had good share of supporters. Snowdon is in rousing form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next.

Young trainer Azhar Ali brought off a successful coup on Princess Pride in the Murdeshwar Plate. The winner who was offered at (7/2) at the start was quickly slammed down to (12/10), the stable connectiions touting Princess Pride as a `moral' bet. Apprentice jockey Arul astride the `Princess' hit the front soon after the dozen runners came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip snuffing out the challenge of Air Force One with a measure of comfort. Amalfi Coast, fancied in place also did well to finish third ahead of Black Hawk.

In the upper division of the Gumbaz Plate, it was the turn of the Prithviraj camp who lost in the opening camp to again pull out a rabbit from the bag. The topweighted Daring Prince on the strength of his impressive effort in a mock race was the even-money favourite while Orogenesis who opened at (4/1) drifted out to (7/1), money pouring in on the Prithviraj-trained Skyfire piloted by Vaibhav. Trevor astride the Sulaiman-trained public choice hit the front and in a pulse-pounding finish managed to peg back Skyfire. Debonair finished third ahead of  Genuine Star while Orogenesis it was clear was never in the hunt.

In the opening event, the lower division of the Gumbaz Plate, Stroke Of Genius opened the favourite before big money came in on Mr.Humble from Prithviraj's yard. The Prithviraj ward found Stroke Of Genius too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Nostradamus finished a game third ahead of Super Gladiator.

After losing out on Mr Humble and Skyfire, the Prithviraj camp got a consolation victory on the topweighted Torsoro in the Kolar Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The winner strongly piloted by Imran Khan produced a good gallop in the final furlong to edge out Tokyo Rose in a close contest while the favourite Sharp Response pipped Mohican by a `nose' to save money in place.

The lesser fancied Roma Victor from Prasanna Kumar's yard came up tops in the Esquire Stud Stakes run over a mile. The winner piloted by Akshay Kumar produced a winning gallop in the final furlong to overwhelm Lycurgus. The favourite Land Of Liberty failed to give his supporters a run for the money, failing to even make the frame. Treasure Striker came home third ahead of Corybantic.

The concluding event, the Cordon Bleu Plate produced a thrilling finish, the first three horses, favourite Mariachi, second favourite Ekalavya and rankoutsider Track Striker locked in a blanket finish. The `magic eye' nodded in favour of the Padmanabhan ward Ekalavya who after gracing the wrong end of the field for most part of the mile long trip produced a winning gallop in the hands of David Allan to edge out Top Striker and Mariachi at the shadow of the winning post.
