Trainer K Thomas leading Dream Catcher (Chethan Gowda Up), winner of The Madras Race Club Trophy

A week before the Indian Turf Invitation Cup races at Mysore, punters enjoyed a good run at the races on Friday. Four well backed top fancies nailed bold colors to the mast and one well supported second favourite came through to the delight of the followers of form who are gearing up for the action at Mysore.

On money favourite Roman Senator made every post a winning one in the Byerly Turk Trophy. The Padmanabhan ward who had competed against classic winners in the past proved too good for his three rivals and on the strength of this performance is certain to add one more to his kitty before the curtains are drawn for the winter season.

The Pradeep trained Agnar was one other favourite who easily won the Saptharisi Plate in the hands of leading pro S John. The winner hit the front from the word 'go' and never let the initiative slip pegging back the belated effort of Hidden Soldier. Zhu Zhu Zest did well to gain the third spot ahead of Gold Mist.

On the strength of his impressive second behind Hunters Moon in his last essay, Apollo Bay from Kishan Thomas' yard garnered the maximum support in the upper division of the Charmadi Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Trevor Patel astride the favourite jumped out smartly and quickly established control and even before the race came on a boil Trevor and Apollo Bay had put the issue beyond doubt powering through to win in style. Glorious Days gained the runner up berth ahead of Duty Call while Bazinga who too had a fair share of supporters failed to save money even in place.

Earlier Kishan Thomas' led in Dream Catcher who dropped a bombshell in the Madras Race Club Trophy. The 20 to 1 shot piloted by apprentice Chetan Gowda produced a sparkling gallop in the final furlong to edge out Merlot and Rafa. The firm favourite Into The Groove partnered by Trevor after leading for most part on the seven furlongs trip ran out of gas in the final furlong and eventually finished in the ruck.

The Neil Darashah schooled Mohican was backed to the exclusion of his eight rivals in the lower division of the Bhagamandala Plate. The on-money favourite piloted by Imran Khan despite suffering interference at the distance post came out to smash the field upby a margin of four lengths. Mohican is on top of his game and is set to provide an encore when next saddled.

The upper division of the event was claimed by the Irfan Ghatala's Bold Move. The winner made every post a winning one in the hands of Vaibhav, who it must be mentioned has struck a good partnership with Irfan. Brooklyn Supreme impressed most by finishing second and is one for the note book. The favourite Duxton is a moody type and is never a good betting proposition.

The lesser fancied Papparazi made a winning debut in the juvenile event. The bred in the purple filly from the Kunigal stud  farm looked a picture of fitness in the parade ring before she justified the confidence of her trainer Arjun Manglorkar and the Kunigal camp starting her career on a winning note. Glenary finished second ahead of Redoubtable while the favourite Amalfi Sunrise failed to make the board.

The opening event, the lower division of the Charmadi Plate was claimed by Rancho from the stables of Imtiaz Khan. The top-weighted Fierce Fighter who was fancied most raced in patches and could only  finish third behind Noble Splendour.
