VICTORY PARADE SIZZLES TO CREATE OWN RECORD

By Mahendra Mallya | 22 Feb 2020 | HYDERABAD

Trainer D Netto leading Victory Parade (B R Kumar Up), winner of The H P Mistry Memorial Cup

Prime fancy Victory Parade (Top Class – Harmonica) saddled by trainer D Netto, produced a scorching gallop to win the HP Mistry Memorial Cup in record time. Jockey BR Kumar progressed from the mind—bunch to be fifth at the turn and then cleverly moved out for the clear run to launch a potent attack at the business end.

Baahubali led them into the straight and wilted the moment Ace Ace Ace drew level with him. Highly Acclaimed went for the inner rails and got himself into an unsavoury position. Victory Parade moved swiftly up the order and accelerated fluently to gain on the front runners. Ace Ace Ace had a handy lead past the distance post, but Victory Parade zipped ahead at top speed to storm ahead inside the final 100 meters to not only trounce Ace Ace Ace, but also rewrite the course record with his own, clocking 1:23:07 for the seven furlong distance. Ace Ace Ace ended a good second, ahead of Highly Acclaimed and the fast finishing Titus.

Pontius Pilate (Varenar – Pure Elation) scored a handsome victory to win the upper division of the Smt Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup. Although he was well behind the front-runners in the homestretch, Pontius Pilate looked the winner from even as they were still approaching the distance post.

Trump Girl took over from King Maker soon on turning for home, with Warrior Supreme and Rapid Fire close behind. Pontius Pilate moved out and started to make headway on the wider outside. Trump Girl shaped well as those close behind fell back, but Pontius Pilate started to muster well and soon was all over Trump Girl. The Srinivas Reddy trainee surged past Trump Girl and posted a comfortable victory although the margin was less than a length. Trump Girl finished a fighting second, while Shandaar and Guiding Force finished on well to end close behind the runner-up.

Yours Forever (Arazan – Yutai) picked up his second win on the trot while claiming the lower division of the race. Happy Together was on his customary start to finish mission and led all the way until beaten in the last fifty. Yours Forever was within striking distance with about a furlong and half to go. Agni was right up there but failed to quicken, perhaps the weight told on him. Yours Forever warmed up nicely and started to bridge the gap as Happy Together was still a couple of lengths ahead inside the final furlong. Apprentice jockey Surya Kumar timed his finish to a nicety and collared Happy Together in the last few strides to snatch victory close home. Happy Together did most things right until he Yours Forever showed up with that fiery finish. Southern Legacy improved in the straight to finish in the money.

Trainer Arjun Anne had a fruitful day picking up a good double with siblings Queen Daenerys and Augenstern, both fillies recording their individual maiden victories on the same day; an uncommon trivia. His ward Queen Daenerys (Saamidd – For Sure) produced her best over an extended distance, succeeding to notch up her maiden win on her first attempt over the mile. She had placed over the shorter distances in all her five previous starts.

Queen Daerney’s was off the blocks quickly and yet again was leading from the start.

She entered the straight with a handy lead and then accelerated fluently to draw away from the rest and shut the opposition out much earlier than expected. Jockey Irvan Singh had an easy ride on this one and he eased the filly up while winning by more than five lengths. Mark My Day could not catch up or match the gallop and ended a tame second. Team Player ran on to take the third spot.

Arjun then led in Augenstern (Saamidd – For Sure) scored a thrilling last stride victory in the concluding race of the day. Acadian Angel led them into the straight with Khan Sahib in pursuit. Augenstern moved out from the mid-bunch to make her run from the wider out. Once inside the final furlong, Augenstern, with jockey Naresh in the saddle, picked up speed and finished with a flourish to pip Khan Sahib and Acadian Angel on the post in a thrilling three-way photo finish with Khan Sahib too nosing out long-time leader Acadian Angel for the second slot.

Laxman Singh trained Palace on Wheels (Rebuttal – Sunset Boulevard) stunned not only the opposition, but the followers of form as well. Darting to the front right from the start, Palace on Wheels had a handy lead coming into the final furlong. Private Empire started to inch closer and was ridden hard to do so, but Palace on Wheels kicked on gamely to thwart every attempt to get past her. She galloped on resolutely to win by just over a length from Private Empire with Meka’s ending a close third.
Monte Rei (Air Support – Summer Wine) produced his best performance yet to notch up his maiden victory after a long wait. He was not too far from the front running Stepper as they turned for home. Monte Rei made headway approaching the distance post and took charge soon after. Linewiler produced a fast gallop and was speeding to catch the leader. Jockey Koushik rode out confidently and kept Monte Rei safely ahead to ward off Linewiler and pick up the much needed win winning a neck verdict at the wire. Angel Tesoro too arrived on the scene impressively to finish an eye-catching third ahead of Sputnic.

Spicy Star (Sedgefield – La Nina) lived up to the promise he showed in his last run to pick his maiden victory on his fourth start. It was a rush to the winning post in the business half of the straight with Just Incredible, Moringa, Lighting Power, Spicy Star, Crazy Horse and Sweet melody the widest of them all. Spicy Star and Crazy Horse quickened in the final 150 m with Spicy Star stretching out well to win by three quarters of a length. Sweet Melody managed to pip Crazy Horse and Just Incredible for the runner up slot.

Mind Reader (Saamidd – Clogher Clove) from the stables of Satheesh, pulled off a well-fought victory adding to his solitary win to date. Gutsy Note fizzled out after looking n contention while leading them until into the final furlong. Blazing Speed then charged in with a good effort only to be humbled with the late but dazzling run from Mind Reader. Jockey Nakhat Singh got Mind Reader to pick up speed with under 100m to go and the gelding rose to the occasion with a fiery burst to clinch the issue a stride or two from home. Blazing Speed held on to finish runner-up ahead of Silver Set.

For the professionals, trainer Arjun Anne and apprentice jockey Surya Kumar scored a double each.
