Star Of Windsor (B.Prakash up), winner of the Stayers Trial Stakes, being led in by trainer Mr.S.Ganapathy

Easily the best performed horse in the fray, the Ganapathy trained Star of Windsor accounted for the opposition in the 2400 metres Stayers Trial Stakes, a terms race for four-year olds and over which highlighted Saturday’s races. The only horse which could have realistically challenged he winner was stablemate Forever Elegance but jockey Chisty chose not trouble the favourite and the finishing burst from way behind which fetched the erstwhile Derby winner the third spot only served to highlight what a contest it could have been The terms of the race favoured Star of Windsor vis-à-vis all the competitors in the fray barring Forever Elegance. Star of Windsor cornered all the support, with some muted support for Perfect Mover and Thats The Touch. Jockey Prakash had Star of Windsor take charge of the proceedings on turning for home and the son of Steinbeck won quite competently from Thats The Touch who put up a grim fight. Forever Elegance’s good stretch run fetched her third spot. Thats The Touch showed good improvement to have so run so well in this company. The biggest disappointment of the day was the performance of Aura who ran below par. Royal Assault who was well supported in the ring, won too convincingly for comfort, in the hands of whip less jockey Suraj Narredu. Aura was not well positioned in the early part and galloped in snatches in the hands of Srinath. Indian Shining, who ran prominently, ended up third. The February Plate, a race for maiden three-year olds, run in two divisions, saw National Trust win the upper division by a whisker. National Trust was hard-pressed to win from Woman In Charge who with better assistance, could have made a difference to the result. The well supported Charlie Brown did not get off to a good start but finished on to be third and he can make amends next time out. The lower division of the race too produced an exciting result with Seriously Dangerous, the ante-post favourite, nosing out heavily gambled Right Again which had D Patel in the saddle. Jockey Patel, who rarely gets to ride winners, was too nervous for comfort, and resorted to whipping the horse instead of aiding the horses with his hands and this perhaps made the difference to the final outcome. Destiny Girl ran on to finish third. Apollo Storm upset the field in the 1800 metres Mudabidri Plate which was contested by mediocre lot of horses. Subaggregate was the favourite but he once again let down his supporters. Pine Forest flattered to deceive as he weakened to finish second behind Apollo Storm who stormed along the rails. Steelium was one of the heavily supported horses which obliged by the skin of his teeth. Steelium railed into a comfortable lead in the final furlong but was perceptibly slowing down as Hawaiian Sunrise swooped on him but the winning post came to the rescue of the favourite. In the day’s other action, Miracle Fantasy who had let down as a fancied runner a number of times, finally obliged at nourishing odds. Time of Life and Magical Ecstasy battled on for the runner up spot, with the former getting the nod on the photo.
