Sarabande (Gallagher up), winner of the Karnataka Racehorse Owners' Association Trophy, led in by trainer Mr.J.S.Dhariwal & Mr.Zeyn Mirza

Jaggi Dhariwal trained Sarabande gave weight and a beating to all her opponents in the richly endowed Karnataka Racehorse Owners’ Association Trophy, a terms race for three-year olds, the highlight of Friday’s races. The daughter of Burden of Proof, Sarabande, who is a full sister to the classic winner Lindsay, had won her maiden outing earlier in the season and then gone on to win the Grade 3 Byerly Turk Stakes at Hyderabad. She went into the race as a strong favourite despite conceding weight to some good type of youngsters. Sarabande led the field from the word 'go' and lasted out to win by a whisker from the well bred Flashy Wings who warmed up too late for comfort. Conceding seven kilos to as well bred a horse like Flashy Kings and then winning is a commendable performance. Flashy Wings, who would be better off essaying longer trips, had to be pushed in the early part to maintain position behind the fancied Sarabande and Jersey Pride. What tilted the race in favour of Sarabande was the speed with which she established a sizeable lead in the run in for home. Jersey Pride shifted out under pressure while Flashy Wings took her own time before she flashed home with a big run. The biggest flop of the day was Padmanabhan trained Predominant. Touted as a possible winner of the Golconda Derby, Predominant went into the 2000 metres W.J. Sibbritt Memorial Plate as a cramped on-money favourite as the race was considered a formality. In the event, the favourite packed up at the final turn and finished very poorly. The second favourite Royal Scandal managed to edge out Initiation close home to land the spoils. Star Blue ran on to finish third. Itsmyday had flopped as a favourite last time out and as such, there were not many takers for the five-year old mare to put up an improved show. The daughter of Glory of Dancer ran at lucrative odds, with support coming for Illusive Lady who was in good nick. However, Itsmyday had no problem in containing the challenge of Illusive Lady though Srinath on the winner caused interference before the final bend by rolling over to the rails, causing the runner up to receive a check. But in the end, there was no doubting the superiority of the winner. Astro Chief was solidly backed to win despite having the 'whip-less' Krishnan in the saddle. Princess Emily who had received strong support by the people in the know, managed to win at the expense of Craigielaw who let down for the second time running. Astro Chief who was poorly positioned, came up with a rattle but could only finish a close third. With good support all round, Astro Chief can make amends. The heavily supported Bay Bomber won the five and half furlong race despite losing precious ground at the start. The favourite proved too good for the field as four-year told took the Ghataprabha Plate (Div II) with a measure of comfort. In the lower division, Worth A Million went down to the late-finishing Copper Sky who managed to prevail by a whisker. In the day’s other action, Lyocel won end to end, with Generous Lad in hopeless chase. Favourite Didjeridu played up at the gates and was withdrawn from the fray.
