Begum Shaherbanoo Husain Lagad & trainer Narendra Lagad leading Majestic Warrior wins The Desert Lightning Plate

Pesi Shroff trained Pense’e (Varenar – Cogito Ergo Sum, Equus Stud) notched up her maiden success on her fifth start and had it relatively easy. Jockey Neeraj Rawal settled Pense’e just behind leader Kardashian until the turn. Pense’e pounced on the front runner soon on turning for home and then sped away from the field to win by comfortably. Quarencia moved up well in the straight to grab the runner-up berth, while Rising Sun also improved to edge out Sergio for place money.

Adhiraj Singh Jodha trained Silver Storm (Sedgefield – Sweet Essence, Jai Govind Stud) galloped to a commendable start-to-finish victory, his first win coming on his ninth start. Jockey Santosh had him in front, setting off at a decent clip over the 2000m journey. At the turn, Silver Storm was still travelling well, while Aspiration and Jack Flash, fell back. Moon River weaved her way between horses to set about in chase, although by then Silver Storm was more-or-less out of reach. Silver Storm was home and dry pretty early in the homestretch, however the run to note was of that Melisandre, who emerged from the rear to finishing on at a nippy pace to not only clinch the runner up berth, but also did well to finish just over a length behind Silver Storm.

Adhiraj had earlier saddled Warrior Clan (Hymn – Run With the Spirit, Jai Govind Stud) who had pulled off a successful start-to-finish essay as well, warding off favourite Monk to add to his solitary win which was during the last Pune season 2019. Five kilo claimer MS Deora took off from the gates and had Monk close behind. On turning for home, Warrior Clan kicked on gamely maintaining just about a length or so over Monk who in turn was well ahead of the rest. Monk tried hard to make a fight of it, but never got close enough to even put some pressure on the Adhiraj Jodha trainee. Warrior Clan made it comfortably in the end to win by two lengths.

Majestic Warrior (Leitir Mor – One Magic Moment, Poonawalla Stud) had been a consistent performer and despite some good showing somehow could not convert many into victorious runs and had only two wins to show from 16 outings. The Narendra Lagad ward finally added to his win tally, this time scoring an emphatic victory. He hit the front soon on start and apprentice jockey PS Kavraj cleverly increased his lead urging his mount on just before the bend and worked up a handy lead coming into the straight. That proved vital under the circumstances as Majestic Warrior kept the momentum going and all his rivals could do was to cut down the margin of victory. Majestic Warrior won comfortably by close to two lengths ahead of Oui Sauvage and Princess Annabel. Barack fell back to fourth.

Soon after the fourth race, a steady downpour and poor visibility forced the cancellation of the remainder of the card. It was later announced that the Homi Mody Trophy would be added to the race card on Sunday, 10th January 2021.
