SULTAN SULEIMAN SCORES COMFORTABLE VICTORY

By Mahendra Mallya | 12 Feb 2021 | MUMBAI

Mr Dinsha P Shroff, Mr Munchi P Shroff & trainer Altaf Hussain leading Sultan Suleiman (P Trevor UP Trevor ), winner of The Aziz H Ahmedbhoy Trophy

Sultan Suleiman (Arazan – Saffron Dancer, Poonawalla Stud), trained by Altaf Hussain, scored a facile victory beating the small field with a measure of comfort. Majestic Warrior tried the runaway tactics, but his bluff was called the moment they turned for home. Both Sunrise Ruby and Sultan Suleiman surged past the runaway leader soon on entering the homestretch. Sultan Suleiman then powered his way to the front and jockey Sandesh had little difficulty in stretching further away and scored with a decent margin. Daddy’s Pride tried hard to get past Sunrise Ruby, but the latter smothered Daddy’s Pride to stay in second, by a good two-length margin. Sultan Suleiman was clearly superior and won handsomely.

Pesi Shroff’s debutante Spinoza (Air Support – Showin’off, Kunigal Stud) scored an impressive debut win in the hands of jockey PS Chouhan. Amalfitana led them into the straight and soon faded out. Supreme Angel had barely gone ahead when Spinoza arrived with a fiery gallop. Spinoza was off in an instant and Chouhan didn’t need to do much more than just push the colt as they galloped away gallantly shutting the competition out well before the winning post arrived. Spinoza won by a good margin of three lengths. Supreme Angel held on to the runner up berth, while Love Warrior improved to finish a close third.

Alluring Silver (Leitir Mor – Personal Allure, Poonawalla Stud) came into her own and was resolute in her finish. She settled nice and early in third behind pacemaker Fleur De Lys and Successor but made rapid progress approaching the turn. Once into the straight, jockey PS Chouhan guided the Shroff trained filly ahead and Alluring Silver showed a clean pair of heels to gallop away from her rivals. She stretched out fluently and looked the winner long way from home, while winning with a big margin of five lengths. Successor heldon to the second slot, while Giant Star improved to finish third.

Bezan Chenoy trained Aegon (Varenar – Bespoke, Equus Stud) produced a powerful burst in the straight scoring an encore in an emphatic manner. Spring Grove was out quickly and led them all the way until into the straight. Aegon was up in the front bunch and once they entered the homestretch, jockey Trevor opened the throttle and Aegon accelerated sweetly to surge past Spring Grove by two and half lengths. Spring Grove raced at one pace and ended second ahead of Northern Singer.

Sanjay Kolse trained Ms Boss (Varenar – Eubee, Equus Stud) was on cue right from start as she tagged along favourite Enlightened and these two led the field homewards. Ms Boss, with Neeraj Rawal in the saddle, made a swift forward surge soon on turning for home. Enlightened found it tough to keep up and fell back much earlier than expected. Ms Boss built a handy lead midway down the straight and managed to keep off the fast finishing Little More by less than a length. Enlightened ended a disappointing third.

Sunderji’s Maplewood (China Visit – Stormy Wind, Usha Stud) hoisted his maiden victory and dominated his rivals in the homestretch. The front runners were ambling along aimlessly and sure enough they folded up turning for home. Socrates took charge early in the straight and had barely begun to accelerate when Maplewood arrived with a dazzling gallop. Jockey CS Jodha hustled Maplewood past Socrates with ease and the chestnut gelding stormed past the hapless Socrates with blinding speed. Maplewood drew away and piled up a margin of over six lengths in no time to snuff the fight out of his rivals. Socrates ran on to take the runner up berth, while Multistarrer nosed out Walk The Talk for place money.

Sergio (China Visit – Serrafina, Usha Stud) chased down Lambretta and Nusrat to post his maiden victory in style. Sergio followed the two in front until the turn and on entering the straight stepped up speed and trounced the opposition with a good measure of comfort, winning by a margin of more than three lengths. Lambretta did well to finish second just ahead of Nusrat.

Wayin (Multidimensional – Way Out, Usha Stud) outpaced his opponents and blazed away to score his maiden victory on his second start. The Rehanullah Khan trainee was not in the best of positions at the turn and had to take the turn wide as well. Genau and Marrakesh were ahead of him but when jockey Chouhan opened the throttle, Wayin simply walloped the opposition and thundered ahead to score by more than six lengths. Marrakesh beat Genau for the minor placing, while Gusty Girl, who was out to a tardy start, improved in the straight to catch the frame.

For the professionals, trainers Pesi Shroff and Sanjay Kolse saddled a double each, while jockey PS Chouhan scored a treble and jockey Trevor chipped in a double.
