WAH MS ZARA SCORES WITH A DAZZLING BURST

By Mahendra Mallya | 08 Mar 2021 | HYDERABAD

Trainer N Ravinder Singh leading Wah Ms Zara (P Ajeeth Kumar Up), winner of The Royal Lancer Plate

Wah Ms Zara (Sedgefield – Cozumel) added to her solitary win this season and signed off with a smart win in Class II showing a dazzling burst of speed. It was Pontius Pilate who dictated the terms from the start with Wah Ms Zara close behind him at the turn. NRI Power too was thereabouts, with Havelock Cruise not too far behind.

Pontius Pilate led them well into the final furlong and for a moment looked good to last it out, but jockey Ajeeth Kumar got the Ravindra Singh trainee to light up in the last 100 meters. Wah Ms Zara finished with a scorching run to surge ahead and pulled off an exciting win. NRI Power also finished with a rush only to beat Pontius Pilate for the runner up berth, while Havelock Cruise ended up a head behind.

Vijays Simha (Letir Mor – Zarandja) produced a fine finishing effort in the hands of jockey PS Chouhan to snatch victory close home. The Laxman Singh trained colt travelled well in the fifth position as Maxwell led them homewards. Soon it was Spicy Star and Ayur Shakti who started to battle for the lead, with Vijays Simha gaining on them with every stride. Vijays Simha didn’t exactly flash past them as both Spicy Star and Ayur Shakti were going at a good clip. Vijays Simha however, got them both just a few strides from the winning post to score his third successive win with an aptly timed run. Spicy Star held on to the second slot from Ayur Shakti.

Srinivas Reddy trained Fatuma (Arabian Gulf – Fire of Destiny) didn’t take too long to know the nitty-gritty of racing as she raced like a seasoned pro in her very second run. She had finished one off the frame on her debut last month and showed commendable improvement after that educational outing. She was quick to settle behind leader Garnet and gradually worked her way up to collar the leader inside the final furlong. She picked up speed at a steady pace in the hands of jockey Ajeeth Kumar and then drove home the advantage to extend well after hitting the front. She was home and dry in the final few strides, sparing two lengths at the wire to the fast finishing Bold Bidding. Garnet, who had a handy lead until into the final furlong, barely held on to finish in the money, just managing to stay ahead of Paladino.

NRI Sun (Saamidd – Maid of Artois) trained by Sreekant, rallied remarkably well in the latter half of the straight to zip past Win Vision with a measure of comfort. Win Vision had shaped well and even looked good to last until stunned by the terrific run that NRI Sun produced. Jockey Akshay Kumar has a way with his mounts and he got NRI Sun to accelerate well midway down the straight. Just Incredible also progressed well but NRI Sun proved too good for the opposition and he won convincingly. Just Incredible improved to pip Win Vision for the second slot.

The not-so-young Platinum Claasz (Lord Admiral – Cannon Baby) won a thriller warding off a dual challenge at the business end of the race. Platinum Classz make quick progress through the back stretch to be one behind leader Flamingo Flame at the turn. Apprentice jockey Abhay Singh then started to work on the mare and got her to gradually get to Flamingo Flame. She eased into the lead approaching the distance post but had to sustain through the remaining furlong. There were those who were speeding up and gaining on her, but Platinum Classz kicked on in a determined fashion to keep the momentum going. Angel Tesoro and Dancing Doll came at a furious rate but just failed to collar Platinum Classz, who held on by a head. Angel Tesoro, Dancing Doll and Mr Shanghai along with Sun Dancer finished in a heap in that order.

Jockey Ajeeth Kumar was the star of the day having secured three winners on the day, and his mount Castlerock (Whatsthescript – Covent Garden) perhaps gave him the most thrill with a turn of foot that was simply too good for her rivals.  She was nowhere in the picture when early leader Flying Jet and Lifetime were battling hard for the run to the finish and they seemed safely ahead of the rest. Battle Ready was not making much progress in third, while Star Dancer although moving up…didn’t seem fast enough. Castlerock then arrived with a flourish and the way he picked up in the final hundred, there was no doubt he would collar them all and run away with the race. He did just that sparing two lengths at the wire, which a few strides earlier seemed improbable. Lifetime, Flying Jet and Star Dancer were completely floored and had to settle for the minor positions.

Prime fancy Sublime pulled off a clinical start to finish victory with jockey PS Chouhan in the saddle having no problems whatsoever well past the post. He took off with Sublime at a good clip and entered the straight compiling a handy lead. The Laxman Singh trained mare picked up once again and quickened nicely to pile up a decisive lead, good enough for her to coast to victory easing up towards the finish. She won by over five lengths. Linewiler ended second without troubling the winner. Lockhart improved from the rear and did well to finish in the money.

Bedazzled (Green Coast – Supreme Discovery) finally opened his account earning his maiden victory after 24 previous campaigns. He was right in front just behind Red River and then made steady improvement. Jockey Mukesh Kumar did take a while to get her going, with Red River still in command, but soon enough Bedazzled warmed up swiftly and quickened well for home. Once he picked up momentum, it was clear that Bedazzled would not have too much to do as there was no challenge brewing up from behind. The Faiyaz Khan trainee won sparing a good two and half lengths to Jo Malone. Minnelli and Kintsugi dead-heated for third place.

For the professionals, jockey Ajeeth Kumar was the star pro of the day scoring three winners, while trainer Laxman Singh and jockey PS Chouhan scored a double each.
