PREMIER ACTION SIGNS OFF IN STYLE

By Mahendra Mallya | 15 Mar 2021 | HYDERABAD

Premier Action (Green Coast – Hunting Hawk) ended a satisfactory campaign scoring his third win for the season along with a second and a third place in his five outings since November last year. The L D’Silva trainee was ridden by Afroz Khan, who kept him well in touch with the front running pair of Consigliori and Havelock Cruise until into the straight.

Into the straight, Consigliori was tackled by the Havelock Cruise, but Premier Action started to loom large on the outside. Premier Action collard them with about 100 m to go and then surged ahead to win by two lengths. Havelock Cruise just about managed to keep the second slot from the fast finishing Titus and Sovet Pride. .

D’Silva had earlier sent out Pedro Planet (Planetaire – Pedra Ona) who achieved his maiden success on his sixth start. Jockey Kiran Naidu nursed the colt into the lead soon on start. My Master and Hot Seat were in chase as they turned for home. My Master inched closer to Pedro Planet, but just could not get past. Paladino tried hard to catch up too, but was not fast enough. Pedro Planet kicked on resolutely and held his own to win by a little over one length. My Master thwarted the late bid of Paladino to finish second.

Deshmukh trained Campania (Ampere – Mount Eliza) was another one to pick up his maiden win start to finish. Jockey PS Chouhan had no difficulty in hitting the front and Campania settled nicely, galloping at a good pace. Campania got stronger once in the homestretch and built a handy lead coming into the final furlong. Gurbaaz was close behind, but not making any impact on Campania. Favourite Georgia Peach started to warm up late, but had too much to cover and with Campania showing no signs of weakening, it was just not possible for Georgia Peach to catch up. Campania won with over a length to spare from Georgia Peach with Gurbaaz tagging along. The rest were not in the picture.

Always Success (Excellent Art – Free Radical) from the stables of Laxman Singh, also registered his first victory and his effort was a clinical one. He settled in the fourth spot and was going hard held in the hands of five-kilo claiming jockey Santosh Raj as Elmira led them into the straight. Elmira could not capitalize on the handy lead and folded up when the going got hotter. Team Player, who followed her home, just got going approaching the distance post, but before he could make any progress, Always Success arrived with telling strides and blew away his rivals. He stormed past Team Player to score comfortably by a length and half. Team Player fought well but found one better. Coastal Cruise edged out Thrill of Power to finish in the money.

Blickfang (Gusto – Fast Escape) scored his second win for the season and this time he won it by a big margin. The Faisal Khan trained mare was right on the tail of early leader Jo Malone and he cruised past to take charge early in the straight. Jockey Mukesh Kumar had an easy ride as Blickfang picked up speed and broke away from her rivals to stretch out fluently, the jockey going hands and heels all the way to pile up close to five lengths at the wire. Nova Scotia improved well to pip Solo Winner for the second spot.

Ravindra Singh trained Dillon (Corporate Jungle – Illaunslea) won a thriller beating Sun Dancer on the post with a strong finishing gallop, despite drifting wide towards the outer fence. Ashwa Arjun and Rhythm Selection were fighting for the lead once they turned for home and were soon tackled by Ulysses. Sun Dancer also drifted out to the centre of the track but was making quick headway. Just when it looked like Sun Dancer had enough fire-power to seal it, Dillon arrived with jockey Kiran Naidu in the saddle and produced a dazzling finish to pip Sun Dancer right on the wire, timing his run to perfection. Dillon won by the shortest of margins from Sun Dancer finishing comfortably ahead of Ulysses.

Netto trained Lorena (Mull of Kintyre – Gossip) put in a determined effort to create a flutter while notching up her maiden win on her ninth start. She took her time to hit the front after about a furlong from the start and then worked up a good pace to stay safely ahead all the way. Alluri’s Pride tried hard to make a race of it and covered ground to get closer to Lorena inside the final furlong, but Lorena kicked on well to win by just over a length. Alluri’s Pride also improved over her previous runs, but that wasn’t enough to fetch her anything more than the runner-up berth. Kintsugi was right there but could not improve well enough and had to settle for the third spot.

Red River (Tazahum – Perfect Rhythm) signed off on a winning note in the concluding race of the season. The K Sateesh trained mare led briefly before Battle Ready took charge. Once they turned for home, Red River warmed up sweetly and started to quicken well. She got past the leader with ease and then surged further ahead shaping well and looking good to last it out as early as midway down the straight. Apprentice jockey Santosh Raj kept the mare going and eventually won by a comfortable margin of two lengths. Hurricane ran on to take the second place ahead of Sacred lamp.

For the professionals, trainer L D’Silve saddled a double, while jockeys Kiran Naidu and Santosh Raj scored a double each.
