NIGHT HUNT, STAR TWIST PICK UP EASY WINS

By Mahendra Mallya | 27 Aug 2021 | OOTY

Ramanathan trained Night Hunt (Net Whizz – A La Votre) put in a clean gallop, going from strength to strength after going into the lead soon on start while winning the Division 1 of the Besame Mucho Handicap. Jockey Shahar Babu was well in control and entered the straight on a tight rein. Lordship was fairly close behind, but just could not keep up when Night Hunt started accelerating away from him. The six-year-old proved too sharp for Lordship as Night Hunt extended the margin until into the final furlong and then eased up to pass the winning post in cruise mode a good three and quarter lengths ahead of Lordship. Breaking Bonds ran on to take the third spot.

Star Twist (Total Gallery – Fair Fantasy) from trainer Futani’s yard won the lower division of the race in much the same fashion in the hands of jockey Umesh. Star Twist had a slender lead as Pretty Gal was close behind her as they turned for home and favourite Torbert too was right up close. However Torbert ran out of gas and fell back to finish in the ruck.

Star Twist galloped on gamely to shake off Pretty Gal easily and romped home to win by four lengths. Pretty Gal beat the rest easily, while Octavian improved in the final furlong to take the third spot.

Foley trained Andromeda Sky (David Livingstone – Fair Fantasy) achieved her maiden success in her second run and won in an impressive fashion in the hands of jockey Nakhat Singh. She jumped out well and led briefly, but settled behind Ocarina until they turned for home. Andromeda Sky wrested the lead back soon on entering the straight and then accelerated fluently to surge ahead and amass a sizable lead. None from behind could match her speed as Andromeda Sky bounced away to score by close to five lengths. Amarone improved to take the runner up berth, while Soul Mate finished on well to finish in the money.

Soon after the start, The Intimidator veered in severely and dislodged the jockey and then jumped over the inner rails and fell twice over on the sand track. The second fall looked very dangerous as the colt landed on his face, but it is learnt that both the colt and the jockey, Sai Kumar escaped without serious damage.

Tudor (Lucifer Sam – Watch) was the only firm favourite to oblige in the day. He rushed to the lead soon on start with Rippling Waters close behind as they turned for home. Jockey Akshay Kumar piloted Tudor deftly and just did what was required. Tudor galloped on strongly and held a slender lead approaching the distance post. At that point, Incredible Star arrived with a burst of speed implying that she would make a fight of it, however, her burst was way too short as Tudor kicked on regardless to score comfortably. Rippling Waters too called the bluff and finished second ahead of Incredible Star.

Inkonito (Win Legend – For An Angel), from trainer Mckeown’s yard, was made to fight briefly midway in the straight before she made a dash for the post to win by a margin. Attica led them into the straight with Majestic Wind and Inkonito, with Vikram up, tracking her closely. Past the 300m mark, Majestic Wind and Inkonito bolted ahead of Attica and were involved in a neck and neck battle. Jockey Vikram surged ahead in the final furlong, but he did move inwards causing Majestic Wind to check, else the margin would have been narrower. Majestic Wind will live to fight another day while Attica held on to finish in the money.

B Suresh trained Rwanda (One Lucky Dane – Rah Wa) fought hard to pick up her second win on the trot and did so by a narrow margin. She moved up from third to join leader Protea soon on turning for home. Oberon was right behind and the trio were abreast with less than 300 meters to go. Oberon looked threatening as he headed Rwanda briefly, but jockey Imran Khan rode out aggressively to wrest back the slight initiative and Rwanda just about scraped through. Oberon stuck by and fought all the way, but fell shy by a neck at the wire. Protea ended a tame third.

For the professionals, trainer B Suresh saddled a double.
